I saw on Craigslist that an outfit called Hawaiian Preferred Equity Group (H.P.E.G.) is selling/building the bamboo kit homes in Puna produced by Bamboo Technologies over on Maui. Anybody had any experience with this group HPEG and what they are doing? We kind of like the homes and might consider having one built if the contractor is dependable. Any comments or information is appreciated.

I dont have any experience with HPEG but would suggest you check them out with DCCA or ask for references that are located on the BI.
I do have a client that is going through Bamboo technologies and they seem to be timely, knowledgeable and cooperative. At this point, that is all I know of them.
If you go through them, please keep us posted!

I believe the Tribune did a story on a Bamboo home built up Hamakua way somewhere, I can't remember where now, perhaps Tribune Archives can help. Also the web site listed was
www.bambooliving.com, they are a Maui based bussiness perhaps they are the same. maybe they can tell you where the Big Island home is, seems the owners where eager to share info with anyone interested. Sorry I can't remember the name. Good Luck though, they sure looked nice, I especialy liked the Lanai posts & rails..

My husband Luckey helped *snap* one of those bamboo houses together on Maui with a small crew last year. They are indeed beautiful and they are a gorgeous addition to any hawaiian land. They seem more 'fitting' than the suburb-style track houses that are so common.

I would imagine that bamboo would do well in the humidity...

There is one on the Big Island. They had an open house back in March (as Bamboo Technologies, they can tell you where it is). I saw one on Molokai, as well, on the West side. It is big and round and hard to miss.

I read an article that the woman that ownes the bamboo house on the BI is constantly giving tours!!
I also "heard" that the bamboo living guy is the architect for the huge new Shipman eco village development.

The Bamboo house lady here is allowing people to tour it - if you check the bamboo living site - email them and they will give you info to contact her.

Hey Punamom! Thanks again for your answer re the home in the shadow of Ms. Pele. This eco-subdivision sounds intriguing. Is this in the idea stage, or are they are little further along?
