When will the County replace inundated roads?
#11
My concern is that all discussion has completely stopped about potential access

Has discussions stopped, or are you just not aware of them? Have you contacted your representatives? I know (on the state level) Senator Inouye mentioned not allowing further development in LZ1 and maybe LZ2. And then on the county level Harry countered with something akin to him not agreeing with her. But that was when he was hoping the state would pay for everything. Maybe his tune has changed now that he is faced with actually paying for whatever he wants. Have you contacted Lorraine? Harry?

Like I said previously, I have contacted the governor, our mayor, civil defense (because the mayor's office said I had to) and I forget to add Senator Ruderman. I have not contacted Senator Inouye. Like I also said previously, no one has responded in any way. According to Eileen O'Hara and Joy Sanbuenaventura, the discussions have stopped. They can't even get any answers.

Regarding property remaining, in Vacationland Farmlots there are at least 5 with structures or usable land remaining. Between Kapoho crater and geothermal, on both sides of 132, there are multiple properties and homes still standing. I don't have an exact count but if you look at civil defense overflights, you can get an idea. Images here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/141970887@N04/albums

You are dealing with multiple agencies at two if not three levels of government; state, County, and possibly federal. Within each of those government entities are also multiple agencies that would decide whether the area is safe, habitable, and finally, how and when it might be made accessible. Probably no one individual you contacted has an answer.

So your next step, is to contact the same individuals, again, and ask them who you should contact to find out about the roads. I would start specifically with Hwy 132 & 137. You may get different answers from everyone, but if one name is mentioned more often than another that might be a good place to start.

Hopefully you will at least get some kind of a reply with that approach, as it allows the recipient of your request to answer your question by passing the buck on down the line to someone else.

On Tuesday night, 9/18/2018 Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono had another message for the Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee “Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing.” She added in another related comment, “Bull$hit.”

Yes, the various agencies will brand you "vexatious" and exercise their option to remain silent, because how your tax dollars are spent is none of your business.

Looks like it may be time for the "Menehune" to take action by tossing the big stuff to the side or nearby puka while stealthily chipping at both ends to make an accessible sloped "roadway".

I was going to sign but googled change.org first.
According to wikipedia it is for-profit company that was accused of selling private information.

Great comment, kalakao. Officials find various sorts of citizen inquiries or complaints to be vexatious.

I don't have the energy to banter back and forth. We lost our home, most of our possessions, our community and our access. We have about an acre left with fruit trees that I worked so hard to establish. I just want to be included in the conversation for going back home to rebuild. The insurance money we received won't even begin to allow us to start over, we are retirees.

We have lived here for 15 years and have been members of Punaweb since 2003. Just because I don't comment on every post doesn't mean I haven't done my homework.

Djs and everyone else. Just try to keep up the pressure on all officials to help us rebuild. And yes most bussinesses are for profit,so will be the petion.org .better to sign the petion than to sit and hope the officials will do whats right
