Monday Town Hall with Ruggles
If you were to reverse all those outcomes determined by "might makes right" you would have to go back a lot further than the Kingdom of Hawaii.

A possible Job one answer: the great uniter, King Kam was wrong. Might does not make right. He did the wrong thing. The blood is on his hands.

A possible Job two answer: there is nothing to do something about.

the Queen was not an absolute Monarch, but rather a constitutional monarch... which was distinct from the Judicial and Legislative branches of Hawaiian government.

So if the queen did not have the authority, and the legislative branch did have the authority, but is not recognized by present day Kingdom advocates - - was there any group recognized by people like Dr. Sai?

Or do they believe that a non-existent group who should have been in charge of negotiating and signing agreements with the US couldn’t, because they weren’t organized, or authorized, or recognized by anyone? Which makes any manner of continuity between the old monarchy and a present day Hawaiian Kingdom an impossibility, or at best a reassembled, orchestrated fiction?

Wowser, extradextralicious, wowser!

I really don’t know what to say. How does one vet the common council folks anymore? Did she get a new boyfriend who showed her the light? She has a lot of explaining to do about her current state of mental health...

Whata world, whata world, I’m melting, I’m melting!

I’m not sure what Jen Ruggles is asking for. The hospital was set up and funded by Queen Emma. Is her estate still generating income? If not, did anyone agree to take over her responsibility? If they didn’t, the hospital would then operate under an updated set of conditions, unless the Hawaiian Kingdom wants to step in and carry out the promise of their queen.

However, no money was allocated to fund these measures until 1859. Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma pledged their own money and personally raised funds for the hospital, and in 1860 a coral stone building was erected for the bargain cost of $14,728.92. When Queen Emma died, she left the bulk of her estate to the Hospital -- which is today the Queen’s Medical Center.

Wow, interesting thread this one is. Thought California politics were bad but think Hawaii wins. Don’t know how this will hash itself out but the Native Americans on the Mainland didn’t get much from Columbus stealing almost a whole contenant from the Native Americans. They pretty much got screwed and given land in some fairly undesirable locations.

"They" do not want a vote on this. They know they would lose.

Who would be doing the voting?

Having your land taken from you and then when you stand up to say you want it back having the thieves tell you they are going to vote on it, and let all their friends vote too, does not make sense to me.

So when are you leaving?

Having your land taken from you...

Please tell us who took land in Hawaii without paying for it? And who had land taken from them without first agreeing to sell it, and then receiving payment?

Well actually there are some prime examples of taking land from Hawaiians. Waikiki was a good example.

Back in the day the folks in power wanted Waikiki. It was mostly low land taro fields. A mosquito abatement organization was formed and the method was to bill the owners of the Waikiki taro fields for the cost of mosquito abatement. The abatement method was to drain the taro fields (hence the Ala Wai Canal) and in the process destroy their farms. When the locals couldn't pay the cost of destroying their farms the land was seized in compensation.

Hawaiian Dredging Company was formed for this purpose as I recall. They are still around. Dillingham was highly involved in the scheme.

Sad history.

From Wikipedia:

"In the early 1900s, Waik#299;k#299; was home to many wetlands, which were believed to harbor disease-carrying mosquitoes. To get rid of the mosquitoes, islanders created the Ala Wai canal. The canal, originally known as the Waik#299;k#299; Drainage Canal, was created by a Hawaiian dredging company run by Walter F. Dillingham. The project took about seven years, 1921-1928."
Assume the best and ask questions.
