The covers need to be deployed very early, as far as I know, they would have only tried after this letter was sent...
If you would like to join my class, it is open to up to 20folks from the Pahoa Pool (as long as at least one HSCA member is there) Wed & Friday 10am -11 am $2 for non-members
Hope to see you there (or at the Pahoa Pool) soon!

PS, in his response to the council concerns, Mason did not state they had tried to deploy the covers, though he did detail all of the pool systems they had utilized to try to re-open the pool (all of which probably did more damage, if there were cinders & peles hair in the water....)

"All,
Before anyone makes assumptions on our operations and decisions. Though it was stated in the media that the pool was scheduled to open on Friday for limited use, it also stated that the pool might close with little or no notice due to conditions caused by the lava and eruption events.

My staff and I have been diligently assessing the situation at the pool. Prior to the falling of "Pele's Hair" there was a possibility to open the pool for limited use as it was stated. With all of complaints that we have received by the community to open the pool to have some normal type activities to relieve stress, etc. , my position was to see if it could be done. We have, over the past few days, checked the water quality due to the eruption events.

After my meetings in the morning, I will be heading back to the pool to check our pool basin by taking samples from the pool. We are also be doing a back wash, checking the strainer baskets, and the pool vacuum bags.

My job is to keep our patrons safe, our facilities free of hazards, and the county from liability issues. You can bet that I will make a decision that is best for all, and will forward my findings to the director.

Aloha,
Mason A. Souza

Not to play the snark, but: as with everything else, if you want something, you're better off building it yourself.

My pool won't be as big, or as fancy, and it won't be cheap, but it will be mine, available whenever I want.

kine ironic that the 2012 lava was at the back door there and they spent that money anyway . the only concern of council is tourists . as with lane flooding damage and lava lost ohana house .the people be their last concern .
