Well.... we met one of the lifeguards I volunteered with while hiking on new lava today....
He is much more pragmatic about the timetable than even I am..... & will be totally surprised if they have the work done by the new year... & he would not be surprised if this closure is longer than the last filter overhaul (see search for more on that!)
I would love to believe 2 weeks... but have lived here too long to really believe 2 weeks..

I had heard from maurice at the rec division that they were told $76 k for repairs and 2 weeks to repair after the bids were accepted. His boss didnt even know and said $125 k
And didnt even know if the bids were happening, he sent me to his assistant, who sent me back to the recs boss, who never replied. Love these civil servants. Pass the buck up and down and than sh****n the hole shebang. I say fire them all and start fresh. Imho

Couple of suggestions: Tell Ms Ruggles to either show up for the job or quit. Seems that her 'moral high ground' stance is very selective. Apparently illegal to do the people's work for fear of repurcussions from a Court with no power or authority in the US, but OK to accept cash for doing nothing?
Secondly, take the money which is available to pay our erstwhile government servants more salary and instead use it to fix the Pahoa pool. Can be justified on the basis of job security, as who would not vote for those who restored an actual benefit to those who pay their salaries?

I have one word for that:broken. This County is broken. It was suggested that I give up complaining about snowflake ruggles. That's part of the problem, we just accept disfunction as a way of County government. I won't drop my discourse on ruggles' illegal, immoral and unethical behavior while collecting a paycheck that comes out of my limited means.
Call Ms Ruggles and ask her to pull herself away from the kingdom and get the pool open.

we have to go through the process. I have one word for that:broken
County merely manifests the brokenness that society has evolved. Example: put something out for bid, award the contract, get sued by the loser who feels the decision was somehow unfair. Solicit new bids, delay project...
It was suggested that I give up complaining about snowflake ruggles.
Feel free to complain all you want. Not only will nothing change, any alternative will be more expensive and time-consuming than the original problem.
