Helicopter post deleted--see FAA thread
Lolo, I took a moment to read your post history. You say you're not a troll, but your post history is a little aggressive, and you're deliberately circumnavigating the swear filter to insult people. You only signed up like, last month, so, I'm not rushing to judgement either way. With that said, I can see how some people might think you're a troll from the aforementioned behavior you have exhibited so far.

So glad you're not rushing to judgements. I'm not going anywhere.

Well said Dan!

Also:
There are very few high altitude jet flights over Puna. Check out a Flight Aware, zoom out on the map and you can see the flight paths from the mainland and Asia into Hawaii.
If you think you see a jet leaving contrails in the sky, there is live info on their website showing the flight path, air speed, and altitude:

Yes I agree there seem to be few flights over Puna. There always have been very few. I bet that site you posted does not list the military jets. Why would it? This all being said it doesn't take away from the FACT that I have been noticing more of the high flying jets over our aina.

And yup PW this is thread about helicopter noise but I thought the jets were closely related as they are both a noise from a man-made engine in the sky. As for tangents like 911 every now and again when you have a conversation, tangents happen. It's natural chatting style, (in person or online) to mention them, let them fall on their own volition and return to the topic right?

There used to be a guy that would get in his glider thingy every Sunday. It sounded like a lawnmower engine in the sky. He/she would do big loops over Hawaiian Acres. Hadn't seen him in awhile.

There are already four military flights out of Hickam to Hilo this morning.

Look at a map. For a high flying jet to pass over Puna their flight path would have to be Oahu to Ecuador. Not likely. Or possibly a direct flight from Indonesia to LAX. Again, not likely.

There are helicopters based in Hilo that use transponders. On days they are in the air you can view their flight path at Flight Aware. Look for flights that take off from, and return to land at ITO.

I have never seen contrails in Hawaii. Even if you did see contrails, it would be too high to possibly hear the plane. Maybe all that pulling out of weeds by hand in the hot sun is making you imagine things.
If someone mentioned nutty conspiracy theories to me face to face, I would pity them and walk away.

If you see contrails in Hawaii, you are too high.

"Exhaust contrails usually form at high altitudes; usually above 8,000 m (26,000 ft), where the air temperature is below -36.5 °C (-34 °F)."
