Puna Kai Shopping center
#1
I've been looking for a current list of tenants going into the Puna Kai center. I've tried several searches but have only come up with Feb. 2018 as latest.

"Local" tenants have to survive until the shopping center opens, and nobody knows how long that will take. I'm expecting more corporate flavor and lots of empty space.

Interesting fine point: the new shopping center has slightly different zoning than the old shopping center. The uses mostly overlap, but Lex Brodie's cannot move to Puna Kai. It could be "interesting" if the old shopping center took on more industrial flavor (car repair, body shop).

Maybe county officials wish to avoid the potential of burning tires and petroleum byproducts (gas station tanks) at Puna Kai should another lava flow approach the area as in 2014. So they’ll allow those grandfathered services in the lower Malama Shopping area, where lava inundation is far more likely than at the higher Puna Kai. And let’s not concern ourselves over the combustible effects of tires and gasoline when compared with acres of petroleum infused asphalt in both parking lots.

With something like 7 restaurants and the ability to have security to herd street people ( they chase away money- it’s a fact ). The only business that can survive in the historic part of town are dive bars
