I wonder if the anti-TMT folks care about the future of our planet, or just their future on this island. Is that too provocative, my dear friend (truly) Glinda?
Let's shed the myopia for the sake of a future for our kids, I beg.
Protectors have children too. Have they been able to voice their opinions? Young folks have some great ideas and potential.

Lisa... I have always been very supportive of astronomy and the telescopes on MK. Any suggestion to the contrary is just noise being made by the small minded amongst us. I am sorry for any confusion their droning on and on has cause. But hey, there is nothing that I or anyone else can say to stop them.. other than to suggest we all avoid feeding trolls.

Oh my goodness, you're hilarious! You go on and on about the Liar in Chief in the White House and yet you two are far more similar than you care to admit. "Glinda" made his first post 3 days after the last post of "Dakine" and it was immediately obvious they were the same person, a builder-turned-photographer from California who wishes scientists would accept him. Dakine also went back and deleted most of his racist (haoles are like sheep and need to be exterminated) and virulent anti-science posts, most of which were against building telescopes. Well, at least you must have some sense of shame, unlike the Orange Man.

Seriously, wouldn't an asteroid strike be considered humane when compared to the "mass extinction event" our inability to control our own greedy give me give me give me behavior which is already bringing one on already? I mean, rather than a long drawn out scenario in which millions upon millions of environmental refugees suffer untold horrors a quick, swift, whack upside the head might be a better alternative.
And beside, considering all the ways a billion plus might be spent to help those in need, or to develop alternatives to CO2 emitting devices, or a myriad of other more worthy causes that a bunch of rich folks staring at the stars. I mean gee, you all go on and on about that f*cking telescope as if its a god. Some deity you all jack off to or some such. Sure staring at the stars is all fine and good, but my god, people are suffering, the planet is being raped, and you all squeal, like stuck pigs, whenever someone disses your sacred telescope!

Pocket change. The world's ultra-rich have sequestered trillions of dollars outside the economy. They'll be able to afford to live (or leave) here no matter what happens.

As I said.. and it seems Paul wants to be singled out specifically.. his is a very small mind..
And btw.. as a staunch supporter of astronomy on the big island I still find the idea of people spending billions looking at stars.. ones that are not going anywhere and can be looked at tomorrow as well as today.. without consideration of the other pressing issues humanity faces to be a reasonable topic of conversation. I also think it is reasonable to deal with the issue of Hawaiian rights before further construction happens. Both of which are obviously too much for Paul to cope with.
I did not say I am against, or anti, or whatever Paul wants to get his panties all bunched up over. All I have done is discussed issues. And at times pointed out how singleminded those who blindily support the telescopes without being willing to discuss such pressing concerns as Hawaiian rights are. But Paul's mind is so small as to not have room for any other opinion other than his own. His mind is so small that he can not cope with discussions that include differing opinions. It's either his opinion or he throws a tantrum. Same ol same ol.. it's the way Paul is, what can I say?

deal with the issue of Hawaiian rights before further construction happens
Hawaiians are dying of old age before getting their chance to have a homestead. Is it suggested that the Hawaiians will be allowed to build homes on Mauna Kea?
Maybe deal with all the existing rights violations before picking a new fight?
Otherwise it sure does seem like "selective outrage" that magically only happens where billions of dollars are involved.

There are of coarse plenty of people who support both the TMT & the rights of Native Hawaiians, which encompasses a broad range of topics including education, health care, jobs, and their birthright a homestead from DHHL.
Here again are the OHA Trustee Candidates who support both the TMT & Hawaiian Rights, who do not define their candidacy by claiming they are for Hawaiian Rights by being against a project which will not affect Hawaiian education (except adversely), health, jobs (except adversely), and distribution of homesteads in a timely manner:
