Sorry oldcroc but back then you were just seeing a small portion of the huge percentage of Hawaiians that the US based periodicals chose to publish. Do you think the crooked USA politically controlled media would publish the opinions of all those that were against being part of the states? Doubtful. The politicians painted themselves as doing good and not thievery which it actually was. Also the ones that rejoiced simply didn't know what they were in for at the time. Not knowing the corruption that they were in for.
Back to the dairy farm: I agree with Alaskan66 there has to be a better method of controlling the manure. Maybe turn it into energy for HELCO?
Or a system of getting most of it off the field and off to farms for fertilizer.

I cant find any info on how many cattle Parker Ranch has, But I wonder how they deal with their 'Poo Piles' Or are they free range poopers? either way I expect that by now the whole free range area is mostly made of cow poo... given the years they have been ranching.
I have a sudden craving for popcorn..

Parker Ranch raises beef cattle. They tend to roam the range, staying outdoors, naturally spreading their manure across a wide area of pasture land. Dairy cattle are brought in for milking three times a day, concentrating the waste in one area.

Making it much easier to collect and distribute. Cow manure is a very good fertilizer. Years ago you could go to the horse stables and get huge bags of horse poop for $2 a bag. Or shovel it yourself for free. Most people say "oh yuck" but to a farmer in Puna that stuff is gold. Something similar should be able to work with the dairy poop. If you were able to get 10-30 yards of it delivered to for a minimal fee to cover loading and trucking I bet the stuff would disappear and be used appropriately. Just an idea. The county or the health dept. would probably put the kabosh on it.

Maybe if you take the H out of "IMHO" and ditch the tag line 'cause you certainly are not humble, nor do your opinions pass for the truth or facts. Then I think we'd all agree that your opinions are.. well.. your opinions. Even though I suspect your's are not shared broadly with the rest of us, but then who's are? Happy happy.
