The donation was announced during an earnings call in June. They also announced that their employees were donating time at the Hub in Pahoa.

The announcement said that the donation was made to the people of Puna, so it may not have gone to the county. They donated a container to the Hub also.

“This wonderfully meaningful gesture will go a long way toward supporting the County’s efforts to mitigate the arduous ordeal suffered by so many of our neighbors in the Puna community,” Kim wrote in the letter that was only recently posted to the county website.

Does "supporting the County's efforts" mean the money was given to the county? One would think so, but the journalism is so sloppy that I will concede to the point being debatable.

That donation was made back in May.

Media conveniently omits that salient detail.

See? Totally unrelated, according to the timely and accurate reporting of our own HTH.

Kim said the money will be set aside for use in Puna.

True to his word, the money (like all disaster recovery funds) are "set aside".

Talmadge Magno, Civil Defense administrator, said he was aware of six applications, including the one from PGV, that have come through his office.

It wasn't immediately clear if other permits have been issued.

Permits are "available" to "anyone who asks". Completely fair, no corruption here.
