Hawaii could be the first state to ban cigarettes

The irony of this thread getting hijacked to EBT is that Phillip-Morris bought out Kraft and other food companies partly so that they could pay tobacco lawsuits with food stamp revenue:

Crazy haole.. your premises, even though in your life that might work for you, is, imo, naive at best.

Facebook makes how much money from advertisers? How much money is spent on political lobbyists? Google is google because of?

Advertising.

PW, is PW, in part because of the lack of...

Advertising.

And you would suggest that all that money going down is for not? That all the classes in all the university on the science of sales, on the psychology of all this are BS.. NO no no, they have no effect on you.. Crazy haole.. so no need think they effect anyone else, eh?

Dude.. have you ever heard of peer pressure? Popular trends? You know how crowds move through time..

Having spent considerable time creating what in the day we called shareware, and now you go to the app store, and tracking very carefully the sales of software I can tell you it is by the book pushed by exposure. Exposure, on a web site, on facebook, in advertising, in the news, on YouTube, you can directly count the dollars as a function of how many people, divided by the percentage of them that might be interested in your product, become aware of it.

Advertising. Trillions and trillions of dollars spent to get people to buy things. Do you actually think that if an advertiser finds one ploy works better than another they don't employ it? Do you actually think corporations do not do everything in their power to convince you to buy their products? Have you not followed the demise of the tobacco industry? The oil industry? I mean come on. The first was found to be willing to KILL people to keep them buying their product.. and lie about it. The later has been found to be willing to KILL the planet to keep people buying their products.. and lie about t.

So yeah.. your thesis is a bit naive methinks.

1. High-fructose corn syrup is subsidized, therefore "food products" which contain it are cheaper than the alternatives. If your funds are limited, you will buy what is cheapest; higher quality isn't helpful if it also means running out of food.

2. Creagan's bill has no chance of passing, but you can bet the tobacco industry will spend plenty of money to make sure it doesn't. We taxpayers will not see any of this money. If it does pass, it will not withstand a court challenge.

3. If this bill were about "controlling people's freedoms", it would apply to ALL tobacco products, not just cigarettes. Ironically, many people smoke marijuana despite Federal law "controlling people's freedoms" to do so.

4. Personal liberty to smoke tobacco does not include polluting the air non-smokers breathe, nor does it include raising the cost of my healthcare to cover the expense of your lung cancer.

I've given too many warnings. No more warnings. It is not complicated.
