Aloha,

The membership meeting for 24 Feb 2018 is officially cancelled. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors. It will be rescheduled at a future date.

Here's the official notice from HPP that just came out:

MEMBERSHIP MEETING CANCELLATION NOTICE

Due to the immediate, unexpected leave of absence of the recording secretary, the Board of Directors has made the decision to postpone the February 24 General Membership meeting until we are able to hire someone meeting the bylaws criteria.

Article IX, Section 4(a)3 requires the Board Secretary to “ensure minutes of every board and membership meeting are taken by a recording secretary from an independent professional secretarial service having no other connection with the Association.” As such, the Board has begun searching for someone, however it will require more time to fill the shortage.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide at least 30 days’ notice for the rescheduled date.

Isn't that odd? Didn't the board just last year (maybe it was 2017) vehemently argue with members at a Member's meeting that it was okay to hold the meeting with out the recording secretary? Of course it was to their benefit then, so now I think it a reasonable thought to question their motivation not to hold this Feb meeting.
On another topic, I was told that the less than candid general manager and his board Treasurer, Tanya, wouldn't release the extremely late annual audit to the finance committee again. Isn't that a battle the FC has had with the lying GM for 3 or 4 years in a row? In spite of the fact that it is in violation of IRS rules for 401 c 4s?
What do you know about this mermaid?

Approved board minutes often have little resemblance to what actually happened

Speaking of membership, I ordered a club sandwich at the Lava Rock Cafe and they never asked for any proof of club membership at all. Apparently anybody can get it.

If this is important to you, go to the HPP office with two independent witnesses, a copy of the relevant IRS regulation, and a device to record the response. Ask for the relevant document quoting (and showing, if necessary) the statute, and if it's not forthcoming, file a complaint with the IRS. I've been telling folks to do this for years, but I guess they'd rather complain on Punaweb and Facebook than actually do something.
