State vs County
#1
https://www.westhawaiitoday.com/2019/03/...lley-road/

Clearly we need a State law to govern the use of a County road.

In which case, why bother having a County at all?

So why doesn’t that road have to meet county standards

From the link:
... safety concerns and general etiquette on the steep, narrow passage to access the sacred valley in Hamakua.

Should people drive into a sacred valley at all? Perhaps anything that could be considered an attractive nuisance, buildings etc., which draw people into Waipio should be removed, and the area regulated with state oversight and management.

We love YPO - we go in with horses and mules .
Sacred is an under statement .
Many Loi and fish ponds .
It is like going back 200 years to the simpler life .
Every one knows every one - Great surfing - mile half long beach - mule trails all the way to Hawi town and horse n mules trails to wet side of Kamuela town . Slow pace life - wet land kalo is king - best mango any where - many generations of Hawaiians in YPO .DA kine pakalolo best donkey boto kolas on island .Waterfalls galore .Peace n quiet .Some of our extended ohana born in YPO .

I'm not convinced that makes it sacred.

TomK - Go spend a month in YPO at the tourist lodge and then let us know how your perspective has changed .
4x4 a MUST - LIFTED with winch both front n back to forge the river at bottom of YPO.

I've spent time in Waipio Valley. Fish ponds, a nice beach, taro farms, mule trails, waterfalls, mango and a slow pace of life does not make a place sacred, unless you abuse the definition of sacred.

TomK - I highly respect you - I have personally met you - albeit briefly . Apples n oranges . Not going to argue with you .
Happy state will make it safer/ by hitting them with BIG FINE for being stoopid . - 80 degree steep valley rd one lane narrow dangerous - us locals born n raise no problem - tourist - BIG PROBLEM.
Just like MANA RD.
From Kamuela town to near ranch going up to visitor center on the mauna where you work.
