Build or Buy Existing Home?

Isn't that what Title Insurance is for? Or don't people do that here?

Title Insurance is done here, but a lien is not quite the same as a defect in title.

Once the house is finished the owner and the GC have to publish a Notice of Completion two times (once a week) in the local newspaper. The newspaper will file the NOC with the Bureau of Conveyences. People who worked on the house but didn't get paid have 30 days to file a Mechanic Lien.

You all have done so well with the info i dont need to reply!! ha ha

Actually been out - my SO got bit by a spidy and it developed into something very scary in 24 hours - so I have been holding his hand while the big mean doctor gave him a shot of big time antibiotics right in the cheek! The reason this seems funny to me is that this is a big strong guy that makes his crew and those clerks at home depot run when he gets his Irish up... almost fainted when the nurse took out the big gauage needle!! He is already doign better and I am back!!

There are spiders in Puna that can hurt you? If I move to Puna, I will plainly become an alcoholic. I feel about spiders the way Indiana Jones feels about snakes, although not in such a stylish and rakish way.

Actually the spidy wasnt bad... it is the staph that came from working all day on a jobsite after the spidy left an opening... miniscule as it was... it developed full blown in less than 24 hours.... i took every tool and choloroxed and put a tube of neosporin in every tool kit/bags/vehicle for future. These guys usually scoff at putting a bandaid/neosporin on for the minor infractions... not any more..

Haahahhaaa, Glen...that's funny. The funnier thing is that I have left a lot of those questions unasked because I don't wanna know...but you just zoom right in on the pedes, spiders, foul water possibilities, etc...hahahaha... now I'm thinkin' about Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom...where all the pedes and creepy crawlies are climbing up their pant legs! It's all YOUR fault! ROFLOL!

Carolanne - I'm giving a bit of thought to building a place in Belize (formerly British Honduras in Central America). If you think Hawaii has creepy crawlies that can haunt your dreams...

Belize has 8 species of venemous snakes. One is called the fer-de-lance, but locals refer to it as a Tommygoff. It has a very nasty disposition and will chase humans. I can guarantee you that no centipede will ever do that! And they have spiders. And scorpions. I don't know if they have centipedes or not. And I am trying to determine if there is a 'snake-free-zone' in Belize.
