Yes. We could get off this planet. Side effect: all kinds of new technologies that could improve things here.
Unfortunately, we're too busy worrying about the Chinese, the Russians, and everything south of the USA.
We deserve extinction.

we are the guinea pig generation for Roundup
and wide spread over the top use of so many things...
The Roundup discussions here have been a joke. At least I wish they were. All the enlightened ones professing their safety has been a source of a lot of humor.. read concern. How is it we can have people who profess to be educated be so blind? So willing to suspend all concern and just swallow what the manufactures say?
And that is not the only new kid on the block... Electromagnetic radiation. Anyone want to profess to know the long term effects of the latest craze? I would bet the same folks that would profess that Roundup isn't the cause of any of our ills would say our bodies are not effected by the stuff..
But it is hard to buy their 'look how much longer we live, how much more prosperous we are' line when in reality we are killing the planet and not even willing to acknowledge it. Something is extremely out of balance, and to say we "know" about a thing, as emphatically as those who profess there is no harm in Roundup do, seems to be way short of the mark.
And of course there are others.. we have a regular ol smorgasbord of new fangled environmentals to be concerned about. But as long as people are willing to buy the lines Monsanto and Bayer dish out who frickin' cares? As glassnumbers points out, the deed is done. The really sh*tty part is while I am an old man and can feel the end is nigh celebrating the birth of my great grandchildren, and looking in their parents eyes with all sorts of celebratory positives as I mask my concerns for what they really are being born in to.. is in so many ways a lie.
But hey, as my favorite local politician would say..

It seems that the fact that some chemicals are dangerous is leading to the broad indictment that almost all chemicals are dangerous.

Oh my goodness - After church this early morning - a quick stop at Hara's for the trib and her ads.Choke ppl buying fake foods - case beer~ cigs and crossbows.
And TomK we make our own soils and ZERO contaminants in any of it.We raise 96 percent of our daily nutrition and ZERO from the Kai is consumed~~~

I am confused about how "going organic" is going to prevent people from using lead based paint 50 years ago.
1) Lead and arsenic were found in the soil in East Hawaii, due to their use in sugar cane production, house paint, and termite treatments.
2) Hundreds if not thousands of other chemicals were used in East Hawaii during that same time which have left no trace.
3) Let's ignore #2 (above) for the sake of argument.
4) Roundup is bad. Just like Lead and arsenic.
5) Other chemicals that are not Roundup must therefore be bad as well, and should be banned, due to the associative property that some bad chemicals or elements demonstrates that all are bad, if you ignore 98+% of them in your equation.
6) Organic is good, and although copper sulfate is approved as a fungicide for organic food production, copper (an element) is considered safe today just as lead and arsenic were 50 years ago. It's labeled organic so copper must be OK, and should not be included as dangerous as other chemicals which are not labeled organic.

Wow, morning in Puna and our long global dystopia has just begun? As a guinea pig, it's hard to know whether to flee from the infinitely rising tide or retreat to my lead-lined burrow. At least everyone can stop blaming school staff for the students' poor performance, given that the heightened soil levels for these chemicals are known to impair physical and cognitive development. This actually explains a lot about the "functioning" of local government as well. At least there's organic fruit at Farmer's Market today - it'll make everything better... /s?
