Anyone using Shipt to deliver groceries?

WINNER!

So we just got our first order and it could not have gone better.

During the ordering process you have to choose one of these options if the store doesn't have something:

1) Don't get the item.
2) Have the shopper text you and ask what to do.
3) Have the shopper use their best judgement about substitution.

Whichever you choose applies to everything in your order, so you can't select to have the shopper use judgement on a loaf of bread but text you on rib eye.

I selected "use judgment" and was thrilled with her substitutions. But one thing to be wary of, like for example you order the $1.50 tube of Target brand bagels and they are out or they can't find them (Target constantly moves them around, they aren't kept anywhere near the bread aisle) and they substitute something from the bread aisle, it's going to be $6.50 and inferior. Maybe okay if substituting one tube, but not 2 or 3.

When the shopper gets to the store you get a text that if you need anything else, text shopper for additions/changes etc what it is. I guess here you can give instructions like "if they are out of rib eye, don't substitute hot dogs" or something like that.

Also during the checkout process there is a place to leave instructions about how to find your place and what to do (wait at gate, ring doorbell, whatever). Which is especially necessary in Puna.

When the shopper was leaving target she sent a message with an ETA to our house.

I placed the order at about 1:00pm. During checkout, I selected 3-4PM as delivery window. Shopper arrived Target at 2:00, left about 2:45, and arrived at our place at 3:15. The shoppers are allowed to run multiple jobs at once, so its possible not all that time was working exclusively on our order.

The shopper was very pleasant, professional, and customer-service oriented.

Regarding the ad question, I did not receive any ads however I also use ad blocking software so might not be aware if ads were attempted.

Don't pay $8.50 per month there is a coupon code to pay half that.

ETA: When ordering there is a button to add "special request", meaning get something that isn't on the web site. Like hot deli food, etc.

"They also can't pick up prescriptions which means we have to at least drive to Pahoa for the alcohol and drugs."

Maybe during your first delivery you could inquire with the shopper if they would be willing to provide additional, independent courier services on a cash basis. When your delivery is assigned to the shopper you get a first name last initial identifier, so you would know if it's your "hookup" or not.

Yes, but they are operated independently from each other (or they used to be):

"how many orders to a specific geographic location

HPP has the density to make it worthwhile. Pahoa and Mountain View are too far."

When I entered my zip code into the Target web site, it said ShipT wasn't shipping to my area.

When I entered my zip code into the ShipT web site, I had groceries delivered to my house later this afternoon (Orchidland).

I don't know what their delivery area is, but I know the information on the Target web site is wrong.

The shoppers get the delivery location and the order amount and decide whether or not they are going to accept the job. So whatever the "official" delivery area is, "actual" delivery area may differ. Our pleasant shopper from today said she couldn't wait to serve us again.

About tipping. So I asked both users of this service (here on Island) and drivers of this service.

A user I know pays $6 for a small Hilo delivery or $8 for a larger Hilo delivery (I only know someone in Hilo that was getting it before we got ours today).

I contacted a driver and asked her what her tips were (not our driver, someone I know that delivers). She said anywhere from $5 to $10 with over 40 items running in the $10 range. My suggestion for Puna (come on... our roads!) be in the $10 make it worth their trip range.

the information on the Target web site is wrong

ShipT website says: Hilo-Keaau-Kurtistown good, others "aren't in your area yet".

Some (offtopic) irony here: HPP, OLE, HA, etc, are "Census Designated Places" but they don't have their own zipcodes. Otherwise it would be trivial to serve "the zipcodes with maintained roads"...

It wasn't my intention to "flood" this thread, but I think it's important to note that when using this service one of the ways the items are arranged for purchase is by "sales", so it's possible to quickly scroll through and find all the good sale items that you'd probably never find unless you spent hours walking through the store looking at every product. Looked at it in this context, I think that even after paying the fees believe this will actually SAVE money. I bought some things today 50% off I know I wouldn't have seen if I went to the store myself.

ETA: I was reading through some "experiences as a ShipT driver" posts on the internet and saw that some people only take shopping jobs when they need to go to the store anyway, and then only select delivery address on the way from the store to their house or nearby... just throwing that out there if anybody wants to have some of their own shopping paid for while they are doing something they were already going to do anyway.

So, how did you get your reusable bags to them before they went shopping? Wink But really, were the groceries packed in anything for delivery?

The groceries were in paper bags, except for the cold items in their cold bag. I brought a box with me to the gate to pack up my groceries.

Well I checked the prices of most items from both Safeway and Target....and I have to say that Safeway's prices using Shipt are out of this universe "high" for everything! Most items are between 30%-50% higher than the same item at Target! I would never buy at Safeway using Shipt. On the other hand Targets prices using the Shipt app are the same prices as buying at the store. Why such a discrepancy? Unless Safeway's prices reflect "non" club card pricing.
