WINNER!
So we just got our first order and it could not have gone better.
During the ordering process you have to choose one of these options if the store doesn't have something:
1) Don't get the item.
2) Have the shopper text you and ask what to do.
3) Have the shopper use their best judgement about substitution.
Whichever you choose applies to everything in your order, so you can't select to have the shopper use judgement on a loaf of bread but text you on rib eye.
I selected "use judgment" and was thrilled with her substitutions. But one thing to be wary of, like for example you order the $1.50 tube of Target brand bagels and they are out or they can't find them (Target constantly moves them around, they aren't kept anywhere near the bread aisle) and they substitute something from the bread aisle, it's going to be $6.50 and inferior. Maybe okay if substituting one tube, but not 2 or 3.
When the shopper gets to the store you get a text that if you need anything else, text shopper for additions/changes etc what it is. I guess here you can give instructions like "if they are out of rib eye, don't substitute hot dogs" or something like that.
Also during the checkout process there is a place to leave instructions about how to find your place and what to do (wait at gate, ring doorbell, whatever). Which is especially necessary in Puna.
When the shopper was leaving target she sent a message with an ETA to our house.
I placed the order at about 1:00pm. During checkout, I selected 3-4PM as delivery window. Shopper arrived Target at 2:00, left about 2:45, and arrived at our place at 3:15. The shoppers are allowed to run multiple jobs at once, so its possible not all that time was working exclusively on our order.
The shopper was very pleasant, professional, and customer-service oriented.
Regarding the ad question, I did not receive any ads however I also use ad blocking software so might not be aware if ads were attempted.
Don't pay $8.50 per month there is a coupon code to pay half that.
ETA: When ordering there is a button to add "special request", meaning get something that isn't on the web site. Like hot deli food, etc.
