Anyone using Shipt to deliver groceries?
#21
I think because Target owns shipt and probably has a negotiated rate clearly in their favor? Win win on that for them.

Were you comparing Safeway's Shipt prices to Safeway's in-store prices, or just comparing Safeway's Shipt prices to Target's prices? In other words, is it more expensive to buy from Safeway using Shipt than it is to do your own shopping at Safeway? Target's groceries are almost always significantly cheaper than Safeway's (as you say, 30-50% less), but Safeway stocks some items that other local stores don't carry and sometimes Safeway's sales offer cheaper prices than Target.

Targets in store prices and target shipt prices are the same. Safeways in store prices are much cheaper than Safeways shipt prices (probably because of non club card pricing using Shipt) .

Yes.

Safeway is a major rip off in general, which is why they can afford $5 Fridays and discounts on specific items. Whenever I am in there bargain hunting I wonder who these people are with carts full of overpriced groceries...

The last time I shopped at Safeway, years ago, a bottle of salad dressing was $7.89. Same brand, same size at KTA was $4.something. Neither were on sale.

As far as I know, Safeway is the most expensive store in Hilo, and I'm talking about their reward card pricing model. Comparable items, when they have them, are generally cheaper at the Orchidland True Value. I thought maybe it was because Safeway was paying a lease on two stores in Hilo but only selling stuff at one of them. But as I understand it they are only paying one lease now.

I guess something you can try is when the shopper alerts you that they are Safeway, give them the phone number you want them to use that activates your safeway rewards, if that is part of the problem. I remember reading on a web site of shipt shoppers that at some stores they were able to use their own personal reward cards when the stuff gets rung up, and that helped to subsidize their fuel costs. (Win/Win the customer gets the lower card prices and the shopper gets the rewards). One poster mentioned getting her gas price down to 70 cents per gallon.

But want to hear something really crazy? Trucking the heavy bags of chicken layer feed to the Walmart in Kona somehow lowers their price by over $3/bag compared to Hilo.

ETA: the win/win stuff

Safeway is worth going to for the Friday specials. Some are very cheap, like $5 per pound decent deli meat.

Agreed the Friday specials, 1/2 almost expired meat, and their sparkling unsweetened flavored water. Only reason we go there.

I also heard the Friday specials are now Wed-Fri due to not having enough carts or real estate to limit the sale to 1 day per week.

Gee, when you put it that way, makes it sound like some kind of scam....
