The parcel of land that he is trying to setup shop on, and all of the surrounding parcels, have been completely unused for as long as I can recall, partly because of the large albezia trees on them. None of that "ag" land is being used for ag anyway!
The commission is basically a bunch of idiots.

For the sake of thoroughness, you should add the politicians, bureaucrats, and the voters. The voters actually should top the list because without their complicit participation, none of the fiasco that is our local and state governance would be possible.

The old pahoa ‘village’ is going to be nothing but dive bars and junkies. The strip mall with parking and security is going to get all the shoppers. A sparkling jewel in the Puna Ghetto

Seeb, only until all the stores pull out of the strip mall for lack of customers. Then it will become one of those "zombie malls" with welfare offices and empty storefronts. The Malama will do fine though, continuing to overcharge EBT recipients and anyone else hapless enough to wander in!

Didn’t say it was a good thing. The planning dept and the real estate developers are like some cartoon super-villain conspiracy to make the whole county look like New Jersey

The planning commission's hands were tied by the PDCP. What else could they do ?
I do feel sorry for the small businessman trying to make a better business.
The corporation that owns ACE also owns several properties that could be made commercial including the one across the street from the Post Office.
Even the Post Office owns property. The square property next to the Malama Aloha station belongs to the USPS.

A big mahalo to all of you who provided input when the PCDP was being discussed and implemented....(sarcasm)
It's kind of like not voting, then complaining about government.
BTW; The planning commission denied the feedstore's SUP request because the location was on a downhill curve that would have made ingress/egress dangerous. A safer location on the bypass would probably have been acceptable. I am a customer, and will miss this store if it cannot remain open, but for Buddha's sake, the problem is poor planning on the part of the applicant, not the County.

I agree. The location and seeking access from Hwy 130 was a poor choice. The PCDP had little or nothing to do with it.
Assume the best and ask questions.
