OHA CEO Leaving
#1
No reason for his departure was given, but perhaps more information will become available in the coming days and weeks. This could be an important development given OHA’s public stance on the TMT and proposals for changes in UH’s management of Mauna Kea in the future.

Kamana’opono Crabbe announced Thursday he would not re-apply for his position as CEO of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs when his contract expires June 30.
Last year, Hawaii News Now reported the FBI and state Attorney General’s Office had launched an investigation into allegations of public corruption and misappropriation of public funds at the agency.
It’s not clear where Crabbe is headed next.

Mum’s the word from Maui as well:

Maui OHA Trustee, Carmen Hulu Lindsey, responded to our request for comment saying: “With the end of CEO Kamana’opono Crabbe’s contract with OHA and his decision to move on to a new chapter in his life, I want to sincerely mahalo him for his contributions...

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the forensic audit investigation...

Today's Honolulu Star-Advertiser says this:

"Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee in trouble for alleged disloyalty"

"The Office of Hawaiian Affairs’ Board of Trustees has a code of conduct policy that requires trustees to publicly support a board decision even though he or she might disagree with it personally."

Unfortunately, the rest is behind a paywall so have no idea about any further details.

And even more. Allegations of improper spending by OHA:

she initially thought it was okay
...
dozens of improper expenditures by other trustees.
...
other trustees have done worse.
“I do believe I was singled out and I do have enemies not just at OHA but outside,"
...
many of the expenditures wouldn’t be allowed today.

OHA has focused a great deal of time and effort recently beyond the bounds and scope of their organization. In the meantime recent allegations show they’ve ignored their own rules, and have spent a great deal of money on personal expenditures from funds meant for the Hawaiian people.

Perhaps they intentionally created multiple distractions, so people wouldn’t notice their five finger discounts, their sleight of hand? Like a bad magic show?

And there I was thinking OHA was just one happy family.

More stuff:

https://www.hawaiipublicradio.org/post/e...violations

"Questionable spending by trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs is back in the news. The state Ethics Commission confirmed Thursday that several trustees have been asked in recent years to repay the state for their use of agency funds.

Daniel Gluck, head of the state Ethics Commission, said the commission has taken action against four OHA trustees for rule violations that occured prior to 2017.
"

This is an organization that wants the TMT and the other observatories to pay them rent.
