UFO sightings on the rise
#91
Sorry, but this is utter nonsense...

From The NY Times... https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/16/us/po...-reid.html

In the $600 billion annual Defense Department budgets, the $22 million spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was almost impossible to find.

Which was how the Pentagon wanted it.

For years, the program investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, according to Defense Department officials, interviews with program participants and records obtained by The New York Times. It was run by a military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C Ring, deep within the building’s maze.

The Defense Department has never before acknowledged the existence of the program, which it says it shut down in 2012. But its backers say that, while the Pentagon ended funding for the effort at that time, the program remains in existence. For the past five years, they say, officials with the program have continued to investigate episodes brought to them by service members, while also carrying out their other Defense Department duties.

The shadowy program — parts of it remain classified — began in 2007, and initially it was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who was the Senate majority leader at the time and who has long had an interest in space phenomena. Most of the money went to an aerospace research company run by a billionaire entrepreneur and longtime friend of Mr. Reid’s, Robert Bigelow, who is currently working with NASA to produce expandable craft for humans to use in space.

On CBS’s “60 Minutes” in May, Mr. Bigelow said he was “absolutely convinced” that aliens exist and that U.F.O.s have visited Earth..

Now who ya going to believe, our wannabe or the pentagon? I personally think Bob Bigelow is on to something, always have. But hey that guy that says he’s a mucky muck up on the mauna while spending all his time dissing people on some Internet forum he should know.. right?

Let's say the people of Puna District would like ocean access and a harbor in lower Puna.
* A County program is established, which includes meetings and listening sessions that hears testimony and reports from Puna residents
* The program evaluates the information, and continues to accept comments and blurry photos of preferred sites from the public
* Puna residents are "absolutely convinced" that ocean access and a harbor should and must exist.

Does such a facility exist? Or is it an:
Unidentified Fishing Objective

How many government programs do what they claim to do?

Aliens, aliens. Someone tell me, if you truly believe aliens exist how does that affect your day? If others don't believe aliens exist how does that affect your day?
Assume the best and ask questions.

Re: The U.S. Military and UFOs

This thread provoked me to make a long overdue call to a favorite cousin who recently retired as a long-term civilian contractor for NORAD. He says that their interest in UFOs is almost completely geared toward the military capabilities of unfriendly earthly powers as opposed to possible alien visitors. When I asked him if they would tell the public if they did find evidence of aliens, he said, "Maybe. Maybe not. It would be hard to keep something like that quiet, though, especially given that we might not be the only ones to notice." He did say that UFOs were not his area of expertise, but "We all talked about it from time to time."

Meanwhile, I still want my passport stamped for the Planet Mongo.

Rob, I believe aliens *could* exist. I'm skeptical of amateur witnesses and blurry photos, but give some weight to authenticated video footage and experienced pilots. It affects my day because it gives me hope that we as a species could one day get past our petty squabbles and superstitions, and become a part of something bigger. It makes me think of what could be, and not simply what is.

When first contact is made, Earth will become the Puna of interstellar civilizations. They’ll tolerate us to some degree, but Earth will always have to beg the Space-Hilos and Space-Honolulus for assistance just to get a crappy crushed asteroid flight path between us and them.

And when we finally get there, they’ll make us feed the starship parking meter just to go in and talk with them.
