Tax deductible donation centers?
#1
Where are some tax deductible donation centers for household goods? Drapes, rugs, dishes, mattress toppers, bed frame, tools. I gave a bit to Salvation Army in Hilo and some clothes to Goodwill in Hilo already. I'd rather donate to smaller business if possible. Thank you!

"I'd rather donate to smaller business if possible."

You don't want to be donating to a "business" at all since the minimum requirement for tax deductible status is to be a recognized non-profit. And not all non-profits qualify for tax deductions:

Be very careful about claiming goods deductions because not only is the recipient subject to question, but large amounts of such can be a flag for an audit. I have volunteered for years giving assistance with filing taxes, and our training mentions this issue prominently.

Well if there are other places to donate household goods, please let me know! Salvation army is not my favorite. I do understand the tax laws. thank you!

Yes, since the Dump recycle stores went "for profit", I'm having trouble finding a good place to donate. Habitat for Humanity 871 Iolani St, Hilo, HI 96720 is good for everything except clothes. Also, just found out the Puna Hongwanji has a fancy thrift shop that takes donations: "Boutique
Puna Hongwanji runs a boutique store that is open most Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This is to generate income for the temple. If you have any items you want to donate, please let us know! We will do the pick up too". I'm sure other churches take donations.
