Best commentary I've seen yet was from Abercrombie, briefly visible in the media (but can't find it now). Summarized:
The protestors are hypocrites: "Rule of Law" is a perfectly acceptable process when courts block construction, but it's somehow also totally irrelevant when protestors want to block the road.

"Big Island authorities have closed the Daniel K. Inouye Highway indefinitely as Thirty Meter Telescope protests grow.
The highway, also known as Saddle Road, is closed on the west side off Mamalahoa Highway at mile marker 42. It’s closed on the east side at mile marker 11 above Kaumana Drive." https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2019/07/17...ips-place/ Kinda puts paid to the idea of a long term standoff, doesn't it?

Depends how quickly they arrest everyone?

They should make an announcement to the protestors that return access back from the access road via Saddle will be closing in 30 minutes, indefinitely. In other words, no chance to drive home. Spend a couple days on that Sacred Mountain...

Other civil disobedience actions taking place on other islands:
https://www.staradvertiser.com/2019/07/1...mauna-kea/ Protesters in support of the Thirty Meter Telescope opponents are blocking westbound lanes of H-1 freeway in the University area. Police are reporting traffic backing up on H-1 from the Punahou overpass to well beyond University Avenue.

Per HNN, mile markers 11 and 42, spike strips visible just beyond the barrier at mile 11 (above Kaumana Drive).

Not too many of the folks up there right now look to be prepared for the temperature a few hours from now.

From ironyak's Star Advertiser link:
“I’m really happy to be here,” she said, speaking through her half-open car window as police looked on. She refused to get out of the car. Police told her they would tow her car with her in it, but Barnett said she does not believe they can legally do so. I don't believe she can legally park her car in a roadway either.
