Frank - Money, money is site specific and I welcome all if terms can be arranged.

If it's going to be a shakedown Frank, the time-honored custom is to jot down your desired amount on a scrap of paper and pass it across the table. So what do you figure - how much is sacred Maunakea worth?

Why we *don’t* need it.

Price suggests a negotiation and is therefore irrelevant so long as the protestors say "never" and government fails to enforce the law.

Yeah, but Frank says terms are possible and it's just a matter of money so might as well hear him out. Maybe he is the missing moderator and can broker a deal.

Many, many years ago I read a book by Mircea Eliade, The Sacred & The Profane:

In The Sacred and the Profane, Mircea Eliade observes that while contemporary people believe their world is entirely profane, or secular, they still at times find themselves connected unconsciously to the memory of something sacred. It's this premise that both drives Eliade's exhaustive exploration of the sacred as it has manifested in space, time, nature and the cosmos, and life itself, and buttresses his expansive view of the human experience.

Frank, are you suggesting the sacred & the profane are just another table at the bazaar, sellers and buyers, everybody haggling for the best deal? Or is it possible as Eliade suggests, space and the cosmos are part of the sacred, and observation of space and the cosmos encompass the sacred?

Frank never said terms were possible...I meant if the State and whoever can come to a deal Great!

State and TMT already did come to a deal - $2 million per year. Is that not enough? Are not the right people getting paid? Why would any additional terms be needed?

Well, that's what the Royal Order of Kamehameha said 4 years ago - "you guys owe us money!"

Fine -- we gonna talk about how much, or just keep running up the tab?
