who owns Mauna Kea Access Road?

You are aware many native Hawaiians support the TMT, right?

They don't believe it. The polls are wrong. Those that support it don't live here or are just a small minority of "traitors".

Stopping TMT won't solve any of the problems.

It's (past) time for DHHL/OHA to step up and open some meaningful negotiations.

Because it's irrelevant: did the protestors carefully research ownership of the access road before they blocked it so as to ensure that they were within their legal rights?

No, they occupied it because it suits their agenda.

If it turns out that they legally "own the road", then State will have to build a new road.

If it turns out that the road belongs to the State, or State acquires ownership by means of a land swap, then the protestors will still block the road. State will have standing to remove them, but as we've all already seen, that won't happen.

The rest of us will still pay the bills for the legal wrangling and wasted salaries while our inept government deals with this problem instead of the actual problems that affect the other 99.97% of the resident population.

”Ferreira, of Hawaii County police, also responded to questions about that day in a letter. “The protesters are considered as acting illegally by blocking the road,”

bold by me...

Like this?

During a recent Hawai#699;i County Council Fiance Committee meeting, it was revealed that the County of Hawai#699;i has already spent $236,000 in total labor costs related to Mauna Kea – just from July 1 to July 15.

above from - https://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2019/...rutinized/

$236,000 for 2 weeks??? Before the road block began??? What???

"Because it's irrelevant: "

Yes, Kalakoa, I think you are right!

the party that "legally " owns the road is irrelevant. Ige ending the emergency proclamation prior to his personal law suit hearing is irrelevant, the judge making a determination to not dismiss said lawsuit is irrelevant. Placing the entire matter in the hands of Kim is irrelevant . How much it is costing our county is also irrelevant.

we as good citizens should instead be grateful & heed the word of our Mayor......
“I’m asking that the people in command asked me to pass the word in regards to the use of force and I passed the response back, and this time no,” Kim said.
( Whatever the H that meant!)

And we all should be thankful to have such wise leadership, pay the exorbitant administrative costs for such representation and not sweat the small stuff.....like roads, ocean access, emergency services, etc.

To invoke the disgustingly slimy two-faced snake nature of Kai Kahele:

The ACT specifically called for “the initiation of a land exchange to ready uncompensated use":

1. "Initiation" is not defined. Someone in government was assigned to it, thus it has been initiated.

2. "Uncompensated use". But the $600 million dollars paid to DHHL already compensated them, so this clause does not apply to this road.

3. "No treaty of annexation", so none of these fake government documents mean anything anyway.

You're welcome.

Exactly -- taxes and fees are merely for the privilege of living here. Actual services are extra, and best kept quiet to avoid being shut down because "the rules".

$236,000 for 2 weeks???

That's just for the incidentals -- they don't have salary/overtime/pension numbers "just yet" because the payroll system is so antiquated.
