That may be. But, the dude that put these tariffs in place doesn't have his junk made in America.

Simple solution is to reinstate the Kingdom and the tariffs AND the Jones Act go away.

But I thought he said it was the Chinese paying the tariffs (and the Mexicans paying for some other thing).

How would the kingdom of Hawaii afford even untarrifed cheap Chinese crap? We'd have such a huge trade deficit, few jobs outside tourism and government, no income...

In the long term, the Chinese are paying with a loss of manufacturing jobs.

Mexico quickly stepped up and has their military patrolling the border as well. Border crossing attempts have dropped dramatically in the last 60 days.

Okay, so we have established that the Chinese are not paying the tariffs and the Mexicans are not paying to build anything. But this is drifting away from Hawaii, apologies.

I just thought somebody might want a new TV for football season. Go Warriors. And Tua at Alabama.
Or cordless power tools for repairs around the yard.

Walmart seems to have a lot more "Made in the USA" products lately. Ever notice the horrible chemical smell coming from "Made in China" items? I usually let them off-gas outside for a week or so.

For those wondering if the tariffs will increase the costs of goods in Hawaii, that remains to be seen. So far, some items that have been subject to tariffs have actually gone down in price since the tariffs were enacted. The global economy is slowing and that has been driving the value of most of the currencies down except the dollar which has been inversely moving upwards by comparison. The Trade Wars are exacerbating the slowing economy and one of the odd side effects is that because our goods are priced in the world's reserve currency they are cheaper for us. So the trade imbalance has actually become worse for the USA since the tariffs were implemented and prices haven't appreciated in any meaningful way- without China purposely manipulating their currency any more than usual. They have a lot of cards to play yet. Both sides do.
