Seven law enforcement officers were evacuated off the mountain as well, all from Oahu.

Meh. A significant number of the protesters suffer those symptoms at sea level.

Yes. The article doesn’t say at what altitude those symptoms developed.

I hope they did the right thing and sent anyone they treated for altitude sickness down to sea-level. You can't cure severe altitude sickness at altitude. This is drummed into everyone who works on the mountain. You can make someone feel better with supplemental O2 but you won't cure them and you can die even with supplemental O2. The article didn't mention that or how the victims were treated.

This is currently not behind a paywall:
"
Plea deal is offered to arrested TMT protesters"
"
The state Attorney General’s Office has offered a plea deal to protesters who were arrested in July for blocking Mauna Kea Access Road that would dispose of their cases if each pays a $100 fine.
It is unclear how many of the activists who were arrested during protests against the Thirty Meter Telescope will accept the deal, which would reduce the petty misdemeanor charges against them to violations.
Petty misdemeanors are punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine, while violations carry smaller fines and no jail time."

I guess they count on the taxpayers to make up the difference in costs for all this. A plea deal of a thousand dollars and no jail time sounds better to me, a citizen.

$10M - (38 x $100) = $9996200.
$9996200 / 200000 (estimated) = $49.98 per citizen.
A small price to pay ... for what exactly? Does my $50 get me a "free pass" on some future violation?

At the Oahu wind farm protest site regular arrests have taken place, and equipment continues to roll in. It’s been pointed out that Honolulu police have a hand on the situation which shows the law can be enforced. A growing number of people are starting to ask, why not on Mauna Kea? Clearly it’s possible.

why not on Mauna Kea?
Quite simply: Mauna Kea isn't on the first-world island of Oahu.
