Roundup (cancer causing substance) cases underway
"And for other proponents of the weed killer, just because you believe it is safe that doesn't make it so."

Just because you believe it is unsafe doesn't make it so either!

My side has time on it's side. It has been in use since 1973. Where are all the piles of bodies and why aren't early adopters of easy weed killing all dead ?

It was so expensive when it first came out that my friends and I would buy it by the gallon and split it up.

I'm 72 years old and still ticking.

Thanks for providing me with a good retirement by your purchases of tin foil !

True Obie.

But here's what your "safe" chemical does to other life besides weeds:

"Roundup is one of the more toxic glyphosate products to fish and aquatic invertebrates, such as insects and crustaceans."
https://www.invw.org/2010/03/03/958/

Glyphosate, an herbicide and active ingredient in Monsanto’s (now Bayer’s) Roundup weed killer, targets enzymes long assumed to be found only in plants. The product is advertised as being innocuous to wildlife. But some bacteria also use this enzyme, including a microbiome found in the intestines of most bees. When pollinators come in contact with glyphosate, the chemical reduces this gut bacteria, leaving bees vulnerable to pathogens and premature death.
https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/new-study-shows-roundup-kills-bees#:~:targetText=The%20most%20widely%20sprayed%20herbicide,according%20to%20a%20new%20report.&targetText=When%20pollinators%20come%20in%20contact,to%20pathogens%20and%20premature%20death.

Ever heard of the canary in the coal mines? This analogy fits here and the small critters that die is a sign that this product is not safe. Logical.

But I've said all this before. You have the right to your own beliefs and denials.

Roundup is getting the same treatment as Donald Trump, both being demonized. They are not the root of all evil however the irrational mass vitriol is morphing into derangement syndrome/s. People irrationally hate Trump so much I think I may switch parties and vote for him next time if he is on the ballot again. Mob behavior is very telling. As far as roundup goes I got it from a Phd scientist who professionally studies pesticides that it is the least harmful poison we use. So go figure. All these lawsuits may be more greed than reason driven.

From Ew's link.

"Researchers have shown that glyphosate also impacts gut microbiome in rats"

Holy hell,we are going to run out of rats !

Well Obie, even though we don't like rats much that's even more proof that it harms life besides weeds.

I'm still waiting for Punatic007's response, this was stated: I lived with a microbiology professor for a few years who only ate organic, he spoke to me on a few occasions of not understanding the uproar on Roundup. Said as far as chemical poisons go it's one of the least dangerous, it's a salt that breaks down rapidly posing no threat to life unless you are a weed,

Obviously you must have lived with that professor a long time ago and there have been developments and new research since then. Either that or he/she was a nutty prof. It is simply NOT TRUE that only weeds are harmed. Tell that to the bees and the fish and countless other creatures that are subjected to Roundup as it washes downstream from farms and into the ocean.

For those that complain that it's too hard to pull weeds and will keep on spraying this nasty chemical because it is the easiest option. I view that as a selfish action. Sure it works for you now and you will probably get away with it but it will effect the environment around you and your keiki and their children will be affected by the contribution to the lack of bees and other long term problems because of it.

Monsanto recently plead GUILTY and will be shelling out 10 million here in Hawaii. Deplorable company.

Sorry EW but this statement is still true :

"as far as chemical poisons go it's one of the least dangerous, it's a salt that breaks down rapidly posing no threat to life unless you are a weed"

You have posted no scientific evidence that contradicts this statement.

I was in KTA yesterday and the 2.5 gallon Ranger Pro is in the aisle along with auto parts. It's $79.00 which I believe is cheaper than BEI.
Must be a good deal because they keep it locked up.

Those that complain that it's too hard to pull weeds and will keep on spraying this nasty chemical because it is the easiest option are no better than those that argue climate change is a figment of some left wing conspiracy. They aren't just lazy, they aren't just pig headed, or some would say entitled Americans, they are criminal in their disregard for life, for nature, and ultimately for their fellow man's health and welfare. They are contributing to the decline of civilization. They are contributing to the extinction of thousands of species.

It is a shame that criminals have taken over our nations government and pushed aside even the discussion of climate issues, let alone our collective desire to do something about it. The current government isn't just complicit in the decline of our environment, they are pushing its demise, as if hell bent on destroying life on Earth.

It is clear, absolutely clear, the safety of Roundup is in question. Simple. And those that would worship idols have turned Bayer into a god. Complete with demands of our unquestionable faith in their chemicals rather than an open examination of the facts, a god we are supposed to bow to regardless of our concerns.

Yeah well, some of us didn't buy the silliness the church pedals. It's just a sad fact that now the price we must pay for those that idolize corporate greed is the destruction of life itself. I am sure Mr Edge will live out his sunset years in bliss, and 007's imaginary friends really do know better, but hey what does it matter when we are already on the brink of our own destruction?

No it is not true Obie. You're in a state of denial. Even the county of Hawaii who loves using roundup will not spray around fish ponds because they know it harms fish and aquatic life. Try spraying it around your pond with guppies and find out for yourself.

It doesn't matter how many sites I reference and share here, there will be others like yourself who will continue to defend it and it's use because you are addicted to using it because it makes your life's chores easier. Regardless of the potential damage it causes to the environment around you. I understand. You don't want to change and you want to continue thinking what you do is "pono"

The Hawaii County Council thought there was an exemption for the Municipal Golf Course in Bill 101 which bans the use of Roundup by the county. Here's why an exemption is important, the change to lawn mowers and weed eaters is dangerous, and it's going to cost a fortune:

Hilo councilmember Sue Lee Loy (said)... “it’s the labor, the physical labor, that goes with that. I did some research on how many workers comp claims were made related to herbicide or pesticide use since 2014, and Hawaii County has not seen one. But in that same time period we have seen 33 claims filed for injuries related to mower use, weed eater use, or equipment and grass-cutting use, to the tune of $382,000 dollars.”

Note the discussion between kalakoa and myself several pages back about the cost and dangers in non-pesticide weed removal, near the bottom of the page:

absolutely clear, the safety of Roundup is in question

Perhaps you should consider relocating to a jurisdiction that shares your worldview.

Spending the rest of your life tilting at windmills doesn't seem like the way to happiness.

To be clear: not saying Roundup is necessarily safe (or not safe), but that there is more to life.
