Ospreys over Glenwood. WTF?

At least two of them, light gray, flying low on rotors. Anybody know what's up?

They had to change flight plan due to weather. They are sorry and apologized for it.

I saw a high-flying raptor a few days ago. Thought "never saw an Io that high before"

But the thermals make it easy, no doubt. Didn't see well enough (dusk-ish) to get any details.

Very interesting aircraft sounds over the lower Puna Kehena area today for hours in this small vicinity, as if they were going in circles or hovering. Due to the overcast you could see nothing but we all heard them clearly. Very cool, I want one of whatever it is.

I saw them, they were under the overcast here. I thought they were supposed to transition to level flight and only use the rotor mode for take off and landing, but they were going places fast and low with the rotors set forward just a hair. They're way louder than helicopters.

Lucky for lower Puna, military sporadically does exercises with their elite aircraft here and just off the coast.

So much for all the twitchers who suddenly became excited!

I’ve seen plenty of frigate birds ahead of storms, but I’ve never seen an osprey here. Are you sure it wasn’t a Hawaiian Hawk which have some light gray or white feathers when they are young?

Yesterday, I drove out my gate and there was a large Hawaiian Hawk on the ground standing in my driveway. Quite a site. I stopped to observe and not disturb it and it eventually flew up to the cable wires on the road. We often see them in the air and ohias but rarely on the ground.

In regards to the loud aircraft, I checked flightracker during all the noise and it showed nothing so I assume it was military. I thought it must be multiple aircraft because of how loud it was but I saw a break in the clouds to the west and only saw one single white airplane at a relatively high altitude. Obviously there could have been more behind clouds, but I only saw one plane It seemed to circle the Puna district multiple times for at least twenty minutes.

We're not talking birds here, folks.
