Cool, thanks for the info. I'm thinking about a wooden house and a metal garage. I know house insurance is cheeper for steel structures since they can't catch fire, lol.

My buddy, Auntie Jeannie, works with Innovative Housing Solutions on O'ahu to do metal-framed homes (there's still some wood, but a lot less). Email me if you want her contact info.

You can check out the company that she works in conjunction with at www.innovativehousing.net. Its kind of neat, they computerize your plans, and assemble entire wall units at the factory and ship 'em over. The house goes up pretty quick. She has current projects going in HPP and Nanawale that she can show you.

*note: this is not a paid endorsement or RESPA violation (please choose your builders carefully and consider several before making your choice), although she and I often do business together and have lunch every now and then, plus she's just a super-nice lady*

John,
This has probably been discussed in the building forum, but your showing us this Oahu-based building company made me wonder if there are other options for panelized construction that are based in Hawaii?

Also, I went to the Innovative Housing Solutions web site and there's lots of justification for the advantages, but there are no photos or explanations for what parts of these homes would be steel, and what parts standard. Since you're the only one I've seen with this information, I would also like your opinion on the steel construction. We've talked a lot about homes incorporating steel wall studs and the like, but this sounds like it would extend to floor joists and other components. Maybe I should just call the outfit and ask, but you're handy.

Thanks for all your help,
Brian (Fishboy)

I provide a panelized home paackage. You can see the ProTEC SIP system at my web site:

David M is building with this and the thread "Ninole Progress" follows his progress.

I was disappointed that Innovative Housing did not provide photos, actually I thought that was kinda odd. I’m also interested in Castleblock, do they only offer prefab homes? I would really like to build w/ as much wood alternatives as possible. Of course cost is one of my main motivators in choosing steel.
