Pros and Cons of Slab/Post n' Pier
#31
Dave, We are just starting to intall plastic trim. For obvious reasons, we are trying to use very little wood, so any trim we will use will be plastic. They say you can weld it with clear PVC cement, but I had a devil of time trying to weld it in-place, then jigged up clamping rig.... it did work, but was not at all convient. May end up caulking the cut ends (esp. if I can learn to caulk like Royall! Man he draws some pretty clean caulk lines!)

Cat, good idea on the cut and dip. I plan to spend as much time as possible at the site to take notes of anything that doesn't look kosher, and to offer my limited, but very willing free labor on my house project. I want to be involved as much as possible. But the cost of gas will limit the number of trips per month I can make up to the house site. It will be left to my contractor to see to it that things are done to the best of their ability and up to code. I will have that added security of the government overseer who will be looking out for my best interests, and that of uncle Sam, since it is funded by a federal loan.

I guess like anything, we need to be as diligent as much as we can, and keep our fingers crossed that thgings are done right when we are not there looking over their shoulders.

I feel confident with the contractor that I hired, and I'm sure he will perform his obligations in the construction of my house. Because if he does a good job, it will open the door to more of these government houseing loans for his business.

I'm so "EXCITED"........Chili

Carey Are you using the Azek trim material? Their cement or generic pvc cement? I'm seriously considering this material to build some custom window frames. Did you get it at HPM or somewhere else?

David, we are using the plastic trim board from Home Depot. Really liked the Aztek demo at last years home show (the guy was curving a piece to fit around a half round window - totally cool) We only picked up the Home Depot stuff because we were there & they had it...
I didn't notice a cement for this product at home depot & was using PVC pipe cement per the little instruction sheet.
