During a voyage in late February, the Grand Princess stopped at four Hawaii ports.

The ship is currently being held off California after 21 people (out of 46 people tested) on that cruise ship tested positive for the coronavirus.

The concern for Hawaii officials: Did any of those people #8213; or anyone else with coronavirus #8213; disembark at any island ports?

The state is working to get the manifest for the vessel.

“We are going to be contacting everyone who disembarked from the vessel, asking them to self quarantine and we will be following up to get a detailed history of their activities while they were here,” said state Health Department Director Bruce Anderson

Almost every medical test has false positives and false negatives. Doesn't mean it's a 50-50 shot.
Nobody on the Westerdam has tested positive for Coronavirus, except one person who then tested negative.
If it was onboard, we would know about it by now, other people would've caught it.
Cambodia did the right thing. Better to make your actions science-based than fear-based.

Interesting info - basically antibodies known to bind to SARS and MERS viruses also bind to COVID-19 so may be able to use them as a future treatment. However, like a vaccine, this is just the first step - there is a lot needed to scale up and test this idea so it's not going to be of any immediate use.

rainyjim - I need to reread Tangs paper, and look at the SNPs myself in relation to the ORFs.
When I reread the paper with the criticism in mind, it does seem odd to pick just these SNPs in particular and group all the strains around it, and then try to speculate why the groups might have different distributions or virulence without any evidence to support either. A more complete argument against the L & S strain paper was also done by Trevor Bedford (Uni. of Washington - talk about being at the right? place at the right? time )

Hopefully many airlines follow suit. I'm sure lots of people, including tourists to Hawaii, are holding off booking trips as they don't want to get locked into travel plans that may need to change.

I don't know about COVID-19 but a few years ago my wife got the influenza test at urgent care that came back negative and we later went to the ER and they said "Meh, it's not that accurate" and tested her again. I got the impression that the flu test was an easy way for them to make a few hundred dollars in less than 5 minutes. When I read about the tests online all the articles were pretty much like this one:

"Rapid Influenza Testing
The diagnostic accuracy of influenza swabs is often overestimated by clinicians. The CDC notes that rapid influenza testing has a sensitivity ranging from approximately 50% to 70% — meaning that in up to half of influenza cases, the flu swab results will still be negative. Another study in Turkey showed that the sensitivity of rapid influenza testing for H1N1 ranged from 31.7% to 50%, again depending on the brand of test. A 2012 metanalysis of the accuracy of rapid influenza testing showed an average sensitivity for detecting influenza in adults of only 54%. Sensitivity in children is somewhat higher since they tend to shed more virus. In most studies, the specificity of influenza testing is 90-95%, meaning that there is a much lower incidence of false positive results."

There have been several pre-print articles coming out of China that the COVID-19 fecal swabs are more accurate than the other varieties.
