I've spent much time over the last few days in contact with family and friends on the mainland, Australia, and Europe. One thing that we here in Puna should never fail to appreciate is the fact that we can go outside, feel the rain and the sunshine, and when at home take a deep breath without fear of inhaling something that will lead to our death. At this point in time, it is a luxury, and precious beyond words.

Whoa! Thanks. Not everything is free but still.

"According to HBO, the programming can be streamed without a subscription by downloading the HBO Now or HBO Go apps. You can also watch the free content online, at HBONOW.com or HBOGO.com. The announcement from HBO adds that content included in this #StayHomeBoxOffice package “will also be made available for free via participating distribution partners’ platforms in the coming days.”"

More free streaming, from the library this time, just need your card number. Many indie titles, documentaries, and kids shows. From a quick scan there is lots of stuff new to me, but "The Seventh Seal" or "All Governments Lie" seem like timely recommendations.

With billions of people staying at home, the earth is vibrating measurably less. Has anyone heard whether Hawaii researchers discussed this affect?

This respite in seismic noise, while it lasts, may allow scientists to better study the natural activity of the Earth’s crust. Researchers, including those who use the impact of crashing ocean waves to predict volcanic behavior and those responsible for triangulating the location of an earthquake’s epicenter, may be able to detect more minute changes and gather more precise data, possibly leading to a geological boon.

One of very few positives to come of the coronavirus crisis has been the chance for us to appreciate the joys of nature—and now, for us to better understand the workings of this planet that we inhabit. So let’s grant ourselves this spring of hope! We need it more than ever!
