Sorry, thats now how life works, Chaos does not give a roadmap to its destination.
The best you can do is watch trends, watch what people have done in history when circumstances present.
When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Where was it written that it would hit that day so those people could avoid such unfortunate incident. Maybe Sell their houses and not live 20' below sea level?
It was the hurricanes arrival there, that allows a short stretch of imagination that its a high probability that many people would die, people would be shooting at each other, Firearms would be confiscated and looting would happen.
The Hurricane Caused the trend. So dont be silly as though these things are not a real possibility in the near future because you have a hard time looking beyond tomorrow.

That's some good writing.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” - Albert Einstein
Not sure why I added the Einstein quote (and it's not sure if he actually coined the phrase) but it's also good writing.

Yes, I agree.
If you click my link above you’ll read that all types of crime are statistically less, nearly everywhere in the world, even in places known for intense violence like El Salvador.

We are still on the leading edge of this. Kander is referencing predictions of the trailing edge.

... in which case he suggested we not listen to extremely negative predictions about the fall of democracy. Gotta love the ala carte smorgasbord here on Punaweb.

Its a pressure cooker. The people who would be perpetrating crimes are not being decent human beings for the sake of altruism, but self preservation. Fear of catching the virus and death is a heavy motivator. Criminals are not generally good at math nor statistics.
At some point that fear will change, Especially if they see opportunity.

Jung said discovering the burglary was “disheartening†because while others are trying to abide by Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s nightly curfew, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Monday, to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, thieves may be feeling emboldened to commit crimes. If caught, however, those convicted for crimes could face enhanced penalties for committing crimes during a state of emergency.

And that is true. The man on the tv said it was bad. And we trust implicitly what the man on the tv says. The man on the tv has your best interests at heart and would never lead you astray.
Democracy wont necessarily fail because economies do. When the soviet union fell and became a democracy, their economic disaster caused 3.5 million premature deaths. This is just what happens in turmoil. Add in the organized crime, the robberies, the murders.. Far more damage can be done than what this virus is doing or has done.

Guys, the economy will suck for a while, and all of us in the bottom 99% will have to deal with the fallout. Aside from that, things will quickly be back up and running, because rich people like getting richer.
