A New Ahalanui Park
#1
It’s short on details, but plans have been announced for a new Ahalanui Park, built with federal money.   Will it have a hot pond?  Where will it be located?  Is there a location along the coast near the old park which could include a hot pond?

Hawaii County will be getting $2.2 million to restore a community park that was wiped out by the 2018 flow.
Ahalanui Park was completely destroyed. The county can either restore it at its previous location, or create a new one elsewhere.

I wonder where on the Kona side it will be?

Probably in downtown Kailua, because that would be the most expensive place to build it.

Hawaii County can build a park for $2.2 million? Ha ha ha, that's a good one.

We know what comes next.

I am sooo happy!  I thought it was never gonna happen.  Puna without an ahalanui (hot pond) just isn’t the same.  We can surely write our legislators with our ideas.

If they restore the boatramp at Isaak Hale, they can explore the warm ponds that are already there. Along with extensive parking, bathrooms, and lifeguards. Touching the ocean is probably necessary to flush it out twice a day, just like the old Ahalanui. I really miss it. Keeping my fingers crossed.
