COVID-19 confirmed in Hawaii: 607+ cases 16 deaths
we are on top of keeping the criminals safe but killed over 20 Veterans and now have a cluster in a nursing home.

Life isn’t fair.  Our Hawaii state officials with their pitiful handling of the epidemic, as bad as it’s been, can’t even measure up to the 208,000 deaths achieved by repeatedly and flagrantly bucking recommended CDC protocols.  For those in charge of the policy? The highest quality medical care.

It's a good idea to test inmates because jails have been shown to be major outbreak sites nationwide. Even if the health status of the criminals is generally considered to be of low priority, infected prisoners can pass it on to jail employees who will then make a generous contribution to community spread.

Harry Kim says there's a spike in Covid-19 cases here, which is not news if you follow the numbers:

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2020/10/23...e-problem/

From the piece:

"The spread of COVID-19 on Hawaii Island is no longer limited to one cluster or one part of the county, and it’s mostly blamed on social or family gatherings. That’s according to Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, who described the problem as an island-wide one."

Based on casual observation, I'd say Harry got it right this time. Just driving or walking up and down our one-mile stretch of road in HPP, it's not uncommon to see two or three large gatherings every weekend afternoon or night with no masks or social distancing. The folks across the road from us are nice people whose parties always end before midnight and aren't really a nuisance, but I hate to think about them all getting (and spreading) the virus.

Big Island overtakes Oahu in corvid 19 infections with 51 new cases!  Will Harry put Hawaii Island back to 14 day quarantine for everyone flying in or close everything down again?

These new numbers are particularly scary when you consider that weekends tend to be underreported. If you go back and read my post on the preceding page, you can see Harry's most recent (as far as I know) statement on the ever increasing numbers of cases on this island. He blamed it on social gatherings where masks and distancing were not used and did not present a list of possible consequences. A piece I just saw on Big Island Now said we had record numbers and added:

"The high numbers are concentrated in housing areas in North Kona and South Hilo Districts."

It really didn't say much more, but here's the link if you want to look:

No need to limit tourism! It is residents who are the spreaders, and even then, 50 cases is meaningless in a population of over 200k.

It's 50 new cases in one day and your comment would only be relevant if everyone on the island was tested in the last two or three days. Also, we only know about cases that have been detected and not those that are unreported because they haven't been tested. The number of COVID-19 positive cases may only represent a small fraction of actual cases.

This has always been true, even before State DoH "updates information" to move the cases around.

From one of those Top Ten, or in this case Bottom Ten lists.  Hawaii is one bright spot in COVID cases across America:

But there is one state that has managed to keep coronavirus in check. Right now, Hawaii is the only state in the nation without "uncontrolled spread" of COVID.
