With regard to fire protection, Just a thought. For those of us whose property has enough road frontage, for an entrance and an exit, coming to and going from the home. It may be prudent to consider how firetrucks can come and go should the need for water become neccessary. With only one way in/out we will have to clear enough and or leave enough clear for these emergency vehicles to maneuver. This could translate into a 40+ foot turn around area, should this be perpendicular to the driveway thats fifty two feet min. plus setback nearing 60+. Just a thought for your plot plan.... Doesn't leave much room to play with, for you with 100 ft frontages.

Aloha HADave, I have a 100' lot with a circle drive, there's just enough room for the waterman to get in when he needs to. A water truck is about the same size as a fire truck. Most of the plantings on both sides are palms, which give good privacy and are soft and limber enough to just brush out of the way with no harm to tree or truck.

The clearing of brush unwanted trees etc. Is burning allowed in subs with no ccrs. Are permits required and from whom do you get one if needed? Also is there a protocol to follow charged hose, racks, shovels etc...

Aloha HADave, I looked on the county website, burning is allowed by permit, with restrictions concerning weather and air quality for the day of the burn, and distance from homes and flammables. Since HA has it's own fire dept. you might email the Hawaiian Acres HOA and see if they have the specifics.

Thank for bringing this one up. We just bought a lot in Leilani est. with great contours in the lava. Other then the house pad driveway and walkways into the property I want to maintain the lava and plant native bushes grass and fruit bearing trees. To expose the grounds so we know where to make these changes do you kill off the grass first?
