Wuhan Corona Virus Coming Soon? (Now Here)
I have screen grabs from April, 2020, when the total US death toll was forecast to be as "high" as 62,000 and it looked like it should be on the downslope in June, gone by September.
Certainty will be the death of us.

There's a new strain in California with a protein spike mutation. We really need everyone on board with the masking and distancing before it spreads, or our current vaccines may become ineffective.

Current vaccines are already ineffective simply because they're not available in meaningful quantities.

One year ago, Punaweb member kander alerted us to the threat of a new virus, COVID-19. kander cautioned us:

From the CDC it appears that the highly contagious Wuhan Coronavirus has made its way to the mainland in Seattle. Being its a contact virus we can assume that its also spread to other people from the airport.
Many flights come out of Seattle to Hawaii, It might be a good time to keep that in mind and stay out of public spaces as much as possible until this thing burns out.

It wasn't until two days later on January 22, 2020 that the (then) President of the United States made his first public statement on the coronavirus:

January 22
We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

In retrospect, I believe Punaweb offered the better long term, and more accurate guidance.

Our Lt Governor has suggested we should be vaccinating those between 65 and 75. I have friends on the mainland living in 8 different states that are in that age group and many of them have now had their second shot.

In the meantime in Hawaii they have moved thousands of people ahead of the 65 to 75 group by claiming they are essential.

Back office workers at the DWS are hardly essential. This is a partial list. Front-line essential workers, including first responders, corrections officers, critical transportation and utility workers, postal service employees, teachers and child care providers.

I am now on a list in Ohio. I have a better chance of getting a vaccine there.

At the current rate, everyone essential or 65+ will be vaccinated by sometime in October.

Remember, it's all the Feds fault for not sending us enough vaccine.

Yes, but this is Hawaii, and they are government workers. That makes them "essential" to politicians who need their votes to secure the Democratic nomination for office.

Teachers are not essential if they refuse to do in-person teaching, are they?
Reply
All unionized government employees are "essential".

Teachers will still refuse to teach after they're vaccinated simply because most of the students are under-16 and therefore cannot be vaccinated.
