What’s the deal with all those little freezers at Target?
#1
Seems like a decent deal, but not if they only last a year. Anyone have one of these?

This is a little difficult to answer without a tad more information.

If you have been to Target recently you would know immediately what I’m talking about. They had a huge stack of them near the front, stacked over six feet tall.

Yes I think a hell of a deal. $149 for a small freezer.
Maybe target's buyers came across a special deal.

Fair point, I haven't visited Target for a long time, but are you saying there's a sign there saying "cheap freezers for sale, only $149 (Thanks, Dory) but they only last a year"?

Perhaps if you remember the brand name (and model number) you may get a response from someone who bought one elsewhere, or a similar unit recently?

I've had a couple of small cheap freezers.
I had, I think, a 5cuft bought from HD while in Alaska, worked well for several years.
Wasn't about to move it to Hawai'i.
So, I sold it.
Bought it on sale for about $100.
Sold it for just about as much.

Bought a second one after moving here.
Again from HD, this time a 7 cuft also on sale for about $100.
Used it for several years.
Decided that we needed a larger one to shop for larger quantities to stock-up for long term for 2 people.
Again, sold the smaller one for almost as much as I paid for it.

Replaced it with a $1300 22cuft and haven't looked back.
It is much more useful, it holds a lot more, and we need to shop less often.

I had ignored the OP because of the lack of info concerning what was being asked about.
I do not use Target, don't like them.
And, I agree with TK's and HtoPE's replies.

I can’t comment specifically on the Target freezer, but one time I bought a small, inexpensive freezer from Home Depot.  It was summertime, so it ran frequently, and I think one of the design techniques that  kept it small and cheap was the limited amount of insulation used.  The sides dripped condensation constantly.  I assumed this would cause it to rust more quickly than things usually rust, so I returned it.  My refrigerators never had that problem.
