I get 5G on hwy 11, in Kea'au, and in Hilo. T-Mobile, mostly n71 (600 MHz band, 20MHz bandwidth).

I've read elsewhere that people are getting faster data speeds by going into the phone settings and turning off 5G unless they live in a big city that has "real" 5G. "Real" 5G has a max range of about 1,500 feet and a practical range closer to 900. The long-range "fake" 5G available here can have slower data speeds than 4G LTE.

5G is just a standard for modulation and protocol. The higher frequencies typically allow for more bandwidth, hence more speed (but less range). The good thing about 5G (even low/narrow) is that it has lower latency, and less users currently.

At high enough frequencies, signal won't pass through heavy rain, which suggests that the carriers will not waste time/money deploying FR2 picocells in our area.
