Wink
Greetings to all puna webbers or unique individual thinkers - Myself and best other half - husband of 46 plus years wish to introduce ourselves .
We both were born on this island - and in our 20s moved to the continent for over 30 years - then after raising 3 fine daughters - all grown up with way too many grand children and dramas - we both made the choice to sell almost everything  and move back to Hawaii the island .
This was a wee bit over 2 years ago and recently i or we were shopping at Cost u less or more or less and I -tawnya met a wahine
who long story short told  me about this site .
Hubby ALWAYS waits in the truck as the rips  might see some thing  they like and take any kine with out asking. plus i am an ln and out kind of gal and hubby might take upwards of an hour just arrive back out with half of what we put on the list of items needed .
long story short here we are in middle upper puna with out our paddles '  retired and free from our past suit and tie world of yesteryear .
We adore the Ua in middle upper puna.

Welcome to Punaweb.

I would be interested to hear what changes to the Big Island catch your eye.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Changes - Where to begin ..

The Mall

Big box stores.

Red lights

Round da bouts .

Home less or house less.

Safeway used to be in the Ben Franklin store -more like a small mom and pop outlet like sako Store,

No paved over Railroad to the dock,

Small airport which is now a HUGE long runway -

NO  crime .

no welfare  or ebt or at least not notable

Sugar was king.

No fast food like today.

No Panda Express  vomit crap.

Sun Sun Lau was the best Hilo had to offer and

No hippies ,

The phones were only 4 maybe five digits ,

And what happened to Aloha Airlines.

No race track over Saddle

No Costco in Kona .

No cell phones ,

Maybe 25 thousand humans on the entire island .

So youʻve been gone awhile, eh? :-) Thatʻs quite a list. Any changes for the better?
Certainty will be the death of us.

Yes Sir or Mamm.

Target has solar on the entire roof along with solar hot water and super ono clean bathrooms exactly to the right inside the front doors and they are NOT like Safeway. Safeway is union and while that may be good for some it does not sit well with hubby and myself.

Aloha airlines stopped flying passengers and is just air cargo now. Seems harsh on Panda Express, but you're entitled to your opinion.

"Seems harsh on Panda Express, but . . . "

If you know what to order, Panda Express can be better than any number of the independent bland Asian food outlets around Hilo.

We take our own before going town so no need buy meals made by others plus tax as we have large gardens and we bake our own breads plus make our own pasta.
We also give to the house less our extras.
