New options for volunteer day labor work. OK, maybe not such a bad option to save the budge conscious traveler some money because they will likely be paying for every other chosen activity in the future, even if it's just going to the beach or for a hike.

After doing the follow-up surveys in 2007 - Believe me, behind everyone of these proposals are grad or undergrad students doing the data collecting for class credits...- I can say that a majority of the folks will say they saw the PSA, most will tell you they learned something & many will tell you they will follow -through with he PSA goal....
Then, when you watch the reef monitoring videos for another project you see the same folks you talked to doing exactly what the PSA video had advised against... esp standing on the reef, getting close to & touching the animals....yup, that is the goal of every grad student... asking tourists on beaches 1. have you seen the PSA 2. did you learn anything 3. do you think you will follow the recommendations..... then watch the very same enthusiastic folks trample all over your test reef area!
If you really think folks will change their behavior do to information given to them on an airplane or hotel... well... that does not jive with the "quarantine breakers" info & the folks that have yet to ʻgetʻ that they will need to wear a mask on an airplane...
Heck there are still folks that try to bring live firearms onto airplanes...
I am routing for the lowest common denominator & know that this is just a way to get Fed bucks into a Tourism Authority that has more than enough grants already given for this & produced little to note on the environmental front...

I remember some safety videos were almost entertaining. Delta was one. Southwest’s demo can be when you get someone that’s into it.

I remember videos about Hawaii being shown on some flights a long time ago. Mostly scenes a of beautiful scenery.

In Villas Las Estrellas, nobody is allowed to visit unless they can prove they've had an appendectomy. So they probably get very few visitors.

Watching a video would be a lot easier, though I don't know a bunch of people who just want to get boozed up and soak up the sun would take it 1/1000th as seriously as agreeing to an unnecessary surgery.

Good point terracore.  But since visitors have already paid an arm & a leg to get here, stay at a resort, plus dinner prices at high end restaurants, an appendix wouldn’t make it a whole lot more.   

I look forward to “Educated Tourist Examiner” t-shirts outselling the old and tired “Bikini Inspector.”

Hawaii volunteer program lets you give back on vacation (and offers free hotel nights)

Julie and I signed up for the DIY beach cleanup through a sustainability hotel package at the Prince Waikiki. The property is one of many hotels and attractions that have partnered with the Hawaiian Tourism Authority and Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau on the Mālama Hawaii initiative, which encourages visitors to help protect and preserve the land.
