I was always taught that when you started with the insults you have lost the argument. But let us entertain the premise. Do you really believe 90% of the country, all countries for that matter and 1/3 of our local population according to your survey are psychopaths? Must be lonely in such a small minority of sanity. From the denigration of your neighbors it seems you do occupy an elite minority space in our community.
I do believe doth protest too much and I do not think that word means what you think it means. If I were occupying your position I do think it would be good logic to wear a well fitting N95, I hope you aren’t counting on a clothe mask to protect you from the coming hoards.

Causation, or correlation?
I left my mask in the car and reopened the door to get it. Saw 2 pretty good reasons to wear a mask and still hadn't put my mask on until I got in the store and saw a majority wearing masks.
There is a pretty good anti -mask protest at the roundabout in Pahoa every Friday. Don't know what people are capable of.
You tell me which.

Restrictions still in place that we could meaningfully protest against:
* Every gas pump has a warning not to use a cell phone while fueling your vehicle. Take a look the next time you fill up in Pahoa, Keaau, or Hilo. Did you know there has never been a single incident of a cell phone starting a fire at a gas pump?
* On December 22,2001, an airline passenger unsuccessfully tried to ignite an explosive hidden in his shoes. Over 20 years later TSA in Hilo, Kona, and everywhere else still require that we remove footwear in order to board a plane.
* Auto insurance companies claim they base our rates on actual risk. For instance, the more miles you drive, the more likely you are to be involved in an accident. And yet during COVID lockdowns when many of us drove 90% less than usual, insurance companies graciously and boisterously announced they would give drivers a 5%! or 10% discount! When you literally were of almost no risk to your insurance company. Even if you did drive, there was almost no one driving on Highway 130 or Highway 11 you could have an accident with. The lack of cars on the road was measurable with seismic equipment.

I was just confused that 1) I don't see where anyone has claimed that 90% of the world's population and a third of the local population are psychopaths and, 2) what the protest was (I didn't see any mention of a protest) and why the word doesn't mean what you think it means. It would be nice to get some clarification. As for the coming hoards, well, I haven't a clue what that's referring to. Walmart shoppers on Black Friday?

I left a mask in my car.
I was only gone a moment.
When I got back, there were two masks.

Well, see? That just proves it.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Clearly Obie was using hyperbole with "that word" to imply a general lack of concern for their fellow citizens from the anti mask crowd. It's disengenuous or incorrect to conclude they meant it literally.
The premise you're attacking is entirely of your own construction. Not
every maskless person encountered in E. Hawaii will be one of the vehemently anti mask "psychos" found on the Punaweb forum. Like me, for instance!
We will see in a few weeks how this plays out. If case counts stay down, more people will likely feel safe about ditching their masks.
OTOH, if numbers go up, will the hordes be coming back to hoard? Oh no, not again...

I'm all for *freedom* to mask or not to mask; but I really get a good >guffaw< when I see people driving by themselves while wearing a mask.
These must be the 'people' who wear 2 condoms at the same time...
PS, Is my formatting kosher?

I've done it myself for short distances. Like from a store at one end of a big parking lot to a store at the other end. I also don't buckle up my seat belt when I drive from my garage to the chain across my driveway, because traffic is light. But don't tell the cops, because you just never know what mood they might be in, and they decide one wheel touches the road.
