#31
Now it's Nov. 1st and still no check. Anyone get one in the last two weeks?
Certainty will be the death of us.

I received a check in the mail for $600 on Saturday, Oct. 30th.  Don't know why it's not a direct deposit.

I've still not received a refund.

I called the Hawaii Department of Taxation today. After 33 minute hold, I was told that even though I filed my 2021 state taxes electronically, a check was issued on
October 28th. So anyone still waiting for a deposit to their checking account, it will be a paper check in the mail instead.

I finally got the refund today - by paper check and I also filed electronically.

DOT likely had issues depositing your refund into your bank. I've seen instances that taxing authority issues a paper check if there is any issues with depositing the money with the bank. This could be anything relating to an incorrect bank routing number or account number

with the bank. ... an incorrect bank routing number or account number

That could be possible in some instances, but if people filed electronically they provided a bank number with their tax return to either pay additional taxes or receive a refund.  Presumably they would have known at that time if bank routing was a problem.

Paper checks take longer to issue, the state keeps our money longer, either because they want to, or because they have to juggle funds.  They can't print dollars like the federal government can. Feds send out refunds in days.

I had to pay a small amount of additional state taxes which I did electronically. They had no problem accepting that payment, so the routing or account number worked. The Feds had no problem depositing my refund by direct deposit and Hawaii was given the same information since I filed both Fed and state taxes at the same time with the same online tax system.

I don't think DOT keeps track of the banking information if you made a tax payment. My parents owed money to the state and received a paper check from DOT. I received a electronic payment, on the other hand, because I initially received a refund from state earlier this year. There is box on the  state tax form that asks for the bank routing and account information if you wish to have your refund electronically deposited.
