I’m not a betting man, and don’t generally dabble in prognostications of where events will lead in the future, but based on very little knowledge of volcanology, and video from the fissure three cam ironyak posted yesterday (for which I have no basis of scale or placement angle, so no idea of the actual volume of lava emitted, but love the view), as well as a three day side by side comparison map of the lava advance (not far)- - I’m cautiously optimistic that the flow will not cross Saddle Road.
Anyone else have a limb to go out on?

There will be a breach. That's as far out as my limb goes.

Anyone know what's up with the police investigation closing the lava viewing area?

I believe the flow will die out before it hits saddle. It's just not as vigorous as the previous Mauna Loa eruption. I think the press is making it out to be more than it is.

"300 years to the north" is not a typo.
This isn't the era of the 1968 Smith Corona typewriter.
This is the era of Android, iOS and auto spell correction algorithms, where a typo can yield a completely unintended word result.
Pull your head out of the past Tom K and please stop playing spell checker, the auto spell correctors are already enough a pain in the ass as it is... No one needs your arrogant incompetence to compound the issue.
We all know it was intended as yards. And for those that didn't, lord help them.

A UXO was found on the shoulder of the old Saddle Road. Emergency services had to contain the device before the viewing area reopens.

I predict the lava will cross the DKI, but won't make much forward progress after that - except creating a lava lake. It will peter out due to the flat terrain in this area.
