Paint Stuck Windows: Any Suggestions?
#1
I'm having difficulty opening/closing a window that it is stuck by paint that was just painted. Without ruining the new paint on the window frame... anyone have any good suggestions on how to get this buggah open?

One Problem: Frame has a lot of termite damage and I don't want to break it

If the paint is sealing the two frames (the window glass frame & the opening frame) then CAREFULLY cut the paint seal with a utility knife (just the blade tip point out, if you can adjust yours). I guess you have figured out it is better to not paint them shut in the first place.... reason I liked staining wood windows... some people put lube (I have heard using petroleum jelly even) the frames before but this can stain the paint & can cause paint problems later.... but if done very carefully. if you have casement or awning, it really is best to paint them when they are open, but not to have any paint build up on the 'sealing surfaces of the frames.

Or hire a painter, you learn not to do this or you won't get paid! If a painter did it call them back! Otherwise it's the razor solution!

As the paint cures it will tighten up. Right now the paint is still soft so it will grab a little more. Take a razor and "carefully" run around the edges. Plus hold onto the window and move it up and down about ten times to loosen it up. In addition you can take some sandpaper and "cafefully once aain" sand the inside edge that you don't see. Many times paint sneaks around the inside edge, you can't see it, but it's there. This is not from lack of skill on the painter's part, it's common. Just make sure you loosen the window up now rather then later. The paint could cure and make it harder to open. Good luck!!! Steve Da painter!

Thanks folks,

The painter will be returning on Monday to finish some things up, and I will leave him a note.

Welcome to PW Steve.
