Retailers in Hilo or Puna...
#11
Thanks Royall, Mella and Carey...sure do appreciate the info. Like I said, won't be on BI until probably September...there's a funny sorta story - we are remodeling and have arched many of our doorways...we have a queen sized bed and never realized that after the arch was done at the bottom of the staircase that we wouldn't be able to fit our boxspring thru and and so now we have to chop it up before we leave!!! We can bend the matress, but no luck with the boxspring! It's kinda okay though, we're about due for a new set. We have a big ol' victorian bed frame and it's one of the only items of furniture we ARE bringing...luckily we were able to break it down. We have sold most of our things but my mom has one of the unmercifully heavy little craftmatic beds...she needs it due to her health and a recent below-the-knee amputation. That has to come along with a small table and chair set and one dresser, one chest of drawers, desk, computer...and last BUT NOT LEAST my husband's tool boxes - he's a master diagnostic tech for Toyota in North Scottsdale. Needs the tools...that will probably cost more to ship alone than anything else we have - just a bunch of boxes of clothes, household, etc. We are nearing the finish line here and I realize more than ever that to realize a dream means much effort and the ability to let go of all those things we spent so many hours working for that we never really needed. Mahalo guys! Can't wait to meetcha!

Phone book is always my first choice, too, but, there is one other da kine you need in your arsenal. Check out the Herald Tribune website. They have a listing you can download called the "Best of East Hawaii". Readers of the newspaper cast their votes each year for the bestest of the best - from ono grinds to where to buy your next toilet plunger. I have found it pretty helpful in chosing where to shop. Give it a try! - PunaCat

Totally off the main subject for this week, but something I know has been on past posts. Target is at the UH-Hilo job fair today (monday 10/16/06). The one recruiter that made it (4 were supposed to be sent) stated that Target is looking to move into the Hawaii market soon, as is recruiting for this. They are looking to start in Honalulu, then most likely expand to the BI. (This kinda of makes sense, as they have had an ad campaign on the TV this summer - I was wondering why, when there are no stores in Hawaii)

NEW FOR PUNA!!!
Longs drugs is going to open next to Puna Fresh in Keaau. They were walling off the area yesterday (the old pharmacy/office/liquor/pet food area) It was weird, last week fireworks, this week a wall! Had to ask why.

Is there any proposals for a Daiei, Tamuras or Price Busters for the East side of Hawaii?

Carey,

Isn't that space small for a typical Long's footprint? Am I thinking of the right space: the side of Puna Fresh toward Lemongrass?

Only the pharmacy not the whole store.

Just to let you know if you need any appliances such as refridgerator, stove, washer or dryer they are not instock here. It will take upto 4 weeks to get them. They have to come from Honolulu. So if you plan ahead you can get them delivered when you get here. You can purchase them over the phone. Just go to your neighborhood Sears or Home Depot and get the item number you want and call them. Otherwise you could be without a fridge for a month.

I really wonder how that new Long's in Keaau and the new Puna Pharmacy (in Malama Marketplace) are going to do...now that our Walmart is offering the $4 (or $9)generic prescriptions. For those that do not have prescription plans....this adds up to huge savings.
