USGS Kilauea update and change of status
#1
Good update from Friday. It is now the longest period since 1986 that there has not been any active surface lava flow:

https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kil...tatus.html

Moving to weekly updates from daily. I wonder when the new flow fields will be open to the public?

I read the whole article/ report. My takeaway is. Be very ,very scared.
My belief its over for now and probably a few years as there isnt any more shallow magma at Kilauea to cause pressure in the lerz. And none shallow in puoo either.

So let get as much fixed now,not wait 6 months.
Aloha

HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Thursday, April 20, 2023, 1:16 PM HST (Thursday, April 20, 2023, 23:16 UTC)

KILAUEA (VNUM #332010)
19°25'16" N 155°17'13" W, Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. HVO monitoring shows pulses of elevated rates of earthquake activity beneath the summit region. Small flurries of earthquakes have occured irregularly beneath Halemaʻumaʻu, Keanakākoʻi Crater, and along the southern end of Kaluapele (Kīlauea caldera) since the early morning hours of Sunday, April 16, 2023. The initial increase in seismicity was accompanied by minor ground inflation, but since then deformation rates have been relatively low across Kīlaueaʻs summit. Gas emissions remain low, reflective of the current lack in eruptive activity at the summit. No significant activity has been observed in either the East or Southwest Rift Zones.

It is possible that an intrusion of magma beneath the surface or eruption of lava on the surface may occur at Kīlaueaʻs summit with little or no warning.

Beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 21, HVO will be returning to DAILY Updates of Kīlauea volcano, reflecting the elevated level of unrest. The Volcano Alert Level/Aviation Color Code for Kīlauea remains at ADVISORY/YELLOW.

Additional messages will be issued as merited by volcanic activity.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to monitor Hawaiian volcanoes for any changes.

I get earthquake alerts and peek at the deformation a few times a week.

My guess it the summit crater is gonna start up again within 2 weeks. Just a guess. Don't see anything that makes me think it will move elsewhere.

There's this persistent warm spot on the summit thermal cam. Again, best guess is it pops right there.
