I have a very good solution for the check-engine-light on old cars.
Duct tape.
My check-engine-light worries are now a thing of the past.

Sure, if the issue is inconsequential. A bluetooth code reader for OBD II cars that any fool can read is about $25. It's at least good to have a general idea what's up.

I took the truck there for repairs regarding its loss of power. After it sitting there at Wallys for about a week and not hearing from them ,I went to their shop and talked to Wally. He didn't, wouldn't or couldn't fix it. All I got from him is that he thought it was the catalytic converter was bad and i need a new one and to take it to a muffler shop. I asked him if he tested with a back pressure gauge, nope he didn't. So when the back pressure tester i ordered came from amazon i tested it myself and the cat was fine. Then i got out the fuel pressure tester i also bought on amazon and tested the fuel pump pressure and it was very low.
then i installed a fuel pump and its running normal again. So no I will never ever go to Wally's garage again. What a waste of time.

"Puna" usually means "do it yourself".

I have an appointment next week at Wallys, the problem could be so many different things........coil, catalytic converter, fuel pump..the list is endless.
So what happened? It's high time for an update.

Would not go anywhere else. Like lots of locals, he likes to surf and if there is a competition he wants to be in, he will be closed. Don't call for an appointment, stop by. "Flexible" hours and days. All acceptable for his good work. Lots of Master Mechanic certifications. My dad was a Master Mechanic for 50 years and this is where he took his vehicle for repair when he moved here (sold his tools and got old). He thought Wally was great and I trust his very experienced judgement. Many other shops tried to take advantage or didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. Yep, go to Wally's.

Mike in Pahoa told me the transmission is going out, so I paid $260. at Transmission Technology to find out the transmission is fine. Wally fixed up my old car and it has been running good ever since.
