Seen any good movies lately?
Second that album as being one of the greatest. I I love those songs too - but I'd have to add "Harmony" and "Social Disease" as my sing in the car tunes!

A fun Elton John concert:

After watching the various weather reports of "Calvin" and then reading some of the responses on the Hurricane thread tonight, AND not to break any great musical viewing discussions but I'd recommend the movie "Don't Look Up"

Short synopsis of the movie from IMDB:

"Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem - it's on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care."

It's on Netflix

"Don't Look Up" up is a fun movie but not one I ever thought I'd watch again. I thought I reviewed it here but can't find the post so perhaps it was elsewhere. I do remember the funny bits, I do enjoy comedy. Some here provide comedy without even being asked hence I've remained posting here for so long. It made a good point about politics and the conflict with science, but I have seen more enjoyable movies.

I'm assuming it's this video - https://youtu.be/jhVYUnuKbTQ

It's very good. Given I'm a fan of the old-style David Attenborough documentaries, the first few minutes had me worried, it was more like watching kids on spring break, but after a few minutes, it became really interesting and certainly very relevant given the current risks to our corals. The photography alone is a good reason to watch it.

I haven’t seen this film, but it’s shot in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and premiered last Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Palace Theatre in Hilo, then Kona, then Oahu:

Maybe this film has already been mentioned. I recently watched this 1987 "thriller" called Black Widow.

It's not the best film ever made but a good portion of it was filmed in Hilo and Puna and has a lot of recognizable spots as they looked in the mid 1980's. It has some notable names (Debra Winger, Dennis Hopper (briefly), Terry O'Quinn (John Locke from Lost), etc.

I also recently watched the 2024 Beverly Hills Cop film on Netflix. On it's own it wasn't amazing but it played good homage to the 1980's beginning of the franchise and they were able to reunite most of the original cast even though some of them are in their late 70's now. Similarly with the sequel Top Gun (Maverick) film, though less of the original cast other than in some flashback scenes.

Rainy day movie time.  We just watched ISS to celebrate today's announcement that there is finally a plan to rescue Butch and Suni from The International Space Station!  SpaceX to the rescue with their Crew Dragon Capsule!

The movie is better than I expected but it's definitely not fast paced...  "Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as a worldwide conflict breaks out on Earth."

Stay dry everyone!!!
I wish you all the best.

Speaking of rainy day movie watching - my husband and I and Barney “binged” Season 1 of “Tulsa King” staring Sylvester Stallone.

It’s Stallone being funny, serious, romantic and dangerous all at the same time.

New York mafia capo Dwight "The General" Manfredi is released from prison after 25 years and exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Okla.; realizing that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a crew.”

On Paramount +

Season 1 trailer:

Season 2 coming out on September 15
